Is Shakeology a Value?

I actually went to Jamba Juice two days ago, just to see what you get for your money there now a days.  I went for the “Lite” menu, opting for a Strawberry Nirvana.  They were nice enough to throw in an immunity boost (but couldn’t tell me what was in it), but I had to pay $0.50 for antioxidents.  Here’s the macronutrient breakdown of what I got in my $5.00, 22 oz shake.

Calories – 250

Protein -7g

Carbs – 51g.  43g classified as sugar

So basically, I got a big cup of sugar.  Now at the time I had just finished a hard bike ride and was looking for a recovery formula type drink, so this worked pretty well for that.  Try this on for breakfast and see how long you last.  The shake did have 110% of my daily vitamin C needs, but aside from that no other mineral or vitamin exceeded 25% of my daily intake.  They do have a Protein Berry Workout drink with Whey, which basically just has 17g of protein rather than only 7g and actually has 52g of carbs (42g sugar).  Keep your $5 and save yourself the sugar rush and ensuing insulin spike.

These drinks really do not even compare to Shakeology.  What you have here is a large glass of sugar that is really not that dense in micronutrients (vitamins/minerals) and has no added ingredients like phytonutrients, adaptogens or digestive enzymes.

Shakeology is well worth the $119.99 price tag.  When you break it down, that works out to about $4.00 per day.  That’s about the cost of your average coffee drink, which is typically loaded with sugars. Despite this value, there are a couple of ways you can save some extra money on Shakeology.

Here’s what you get for $4.00 per day.

Calories – 140

Protein – 17g (chocolate)

Carbs – 17g (chocolate)

Find the Shakeology Nutrition Facts: HERE.  In addition to the evenly balanced protein/carb ratio, you get a once a day shake that meets most of your daily nutritional needs.  Remember the 110% serving of Vitamin C from Jamba Juice.  Try 300% with Shakeology.  In addition, you’ll get a proprietary super-fruit blend, which includes the acai berry, dietary enzymes and probiotics.  In short, there’s just more in Shakeology than anything else we’ve found on the market.

In our opinion, that makes Shakeology a great value at about $4.00 per day.  However, there are ways to make it an even better value.  One way to save money is to get on “Home Direct”.  You’ll see this option in our web store.  Home Direct is an auto-ship program that will ship your Shakeology to you automatically every 30 days.  That way you never run out.  People on Home Direct receive free Shipping and Handling on all their Shakeology orders.  That works out to a savings about $7.00 per order, depending on where you live.  You can cancel this order at any time.

The second way to cut your Shakeology costs is to become a Beachbody Club Member.  The Club costs about $2.99 per week.  The charges are billed quarterly in the amount of $38.98.  In addition to a wealth of nutritional information, Club Members receive a 10% discount on all products.  Club Members on Home Direct also receive free Shipping and Handling.

The third way to save is to become a Beachbody Coach.  There is a one-time fee of $39.95 and then after that, only $14.95 a month to “BE” a coach.  Many people sign up because of the discount – as a coach you get a 25% discount on all Beachbody products, including Shakeology. So Shakeology becomes $89.95 ($30 less) but when you factor in the coach fee, its $15 less every month.  The Home Direct Shipping and Handling fee waiver also applies to Coaches, so you can save quite a bit by becoming a Beachbody Coach.

At the end of the day, your fitness really depends on your nutrition.  Shakeology isn’t the only way to get your nutrition, but it is the easiest.  We are currently offering free samples, and you can find out more about that HERE.  Treat yourself to something good and try Shakeology if you haven’t already.
