New Body Beast Supplements from Beachbody

Exciting news in the supplement world.  Beachbody has released a new line of supplements in conjunction with the Body Beast program by trainer Sagi Kalev.  I’m not doing that program just yet.  I want to finish Les Mills PUMP first and then I am riding the bike leg of a Half-Ironman triathlon (56 miles), so I have a lot of work to do before Sagi can torture me.

The Body Beast Supplements include “Base Shake”, “Super SUMA”, “M.A.X. Creatine”, and “Fuel Shot”.  The last one is going to raise a few eyebrows of my paleo friends, but keep in mind that I’m experimenting here.   I think it’s good to try new things and see how they impact your body (don’t try this with heroin, that’s not what I’m talking about).  In this video I do a quick review of the supplement line, and give you my thoughts on PUMP.  I’m really happy with both so far.  I forgot to mention it in the video, but I’ve been taking the Suma in the morning first thing with water and waiting at least 30 minutes before I eat.  WOW!  That will wake you up in the morning!  Check it out.

I really am loving Les Mills PUMP.  It’s such a great workout.  It takes some time to get the weights right.  That’s tricky.  I’m really used to doing 8 to 10 reps with weight that cause failure at that 9th or 10th rep.  Les Mills PUMP has you working any particular body part for up to 5 minutes.  You can’t even pick up half the weight you would for an 8 to 10 rep workout.  It’s just a totally different program from anything I’ve done before and I really like the challenge.  If you pick up heavy weights, you better settle in for some pain.  40 pounds doesn’t sound like much, but do chest presses for 5 minutes with that weight and let me know what you think.

I also like the flexibility of the program.  Having easier exercises like walks on the schedule really works for me.  I can swap out that walk for a 50 minute time trial on my bike or 90 minutes of surfing in the ocean on my stand up board and get out of the house.  That’s important for me since I work at home.  I love working from home with Team Beachbody, but it means that you never leave the office if you don’t force yourself to.  I need to get outside and get away from the computer.  This program allows me to do that, and I am really enjoying it.

Don’t forget that we offer Free Coaching for all of Beachbody’s programs, and we can help you sort out the really difficult things (e.g. nutrition).  Take us up on that offer and we won’t disappoint you.

How much weight are you using for each set? Week 3 for me and getting a good guideline so far.

I’m up to 40 for squats. The rest of them vary. I did 40 for chest last time. Not sure I’m going to try that today with Pump Extreme on the menu. The lunges are the hardest for me. My left ACL is still in recovery 18 years after surgery. That isolation is tough. Still, that’s the range that makes the change. ;)
