Associated Content contributor Shamontiel Vaughn recently took us up on our offer for free samples of Shakeology. She wrote the following review on Associated Content. For more information on Shamontiel or her other Associated Content reviews please go to: http://www.associatedcontent.com/user/5069/shamontiel.html

Protein Greenberry and Chocolate Shakeology Drinks on the Go

Advertisements about replacing one meal a day with vitamin drinks never caught my interest. I saw the ads for Slim-Fast and other drinks like it, but I preferred to eat a well-balanced meal instead.
However, as a freelancer, I’m not forced to wake up at the times I used to while working full time. This is a perk and a curse. By me waking up at odd hours and going to sleep at odd hours, this means my eating times are all out of wack. I go to sleep around six in the morning and wake up at one in the afternoon. My breakfast hour is gone, and I’m not hungry until around four o’ clock. I don’t eat right and usually miss meals altogether, which makes me tired. However, I do enjoy working out and have been a longtime fan of Shaun T’s “Hip-Hop Abs” tapes. When I saw the Shakeology drink promotions, I decided to give it a shot.

I signed up for a free membership with Team BeachBody, and my coach is The Fit Club Network LLC. After signing up, I was given the option of trying a Shakeology sample and received two, a Greenberry Shakeology mix and a Chocolate Shakeology mix.

David Ward, one of the company owners of The Fit Club Network, encouraged me to try out the Shakeology recipes because “most people need more calories anyway to make it a meal replacement shake.” He was honest about the drink not tasting “great with just water.” I agree and disagree.

The Greenberry Shakeology drink wasn’t as bad as I thought it’d be. Drinking something green just doesn’t sound appealing, but the drink was fruity and sweet. I used a little too much ice to make it into a shake so it was a little watery, but the drink still held strong for several hours and I didn’t get hungry again. Both Shakeology drinks include vitamins and minerals, antioxidants, protein, digestive enzymes, prebiotics, phytonutrients and adaptogens. Because I’m a vegetarian, my biggest concern is making sure I get the right amount of B12 since I don’t eat meat, and the Greenberry Shakeology drink includes 6 mcg of it, in addition to over 70 other healthy ingredients like Vitamin A, Vitamin C, Vitamin D, Vitamin E, Vitamin K1, Vitamin B1, Vitamin B2, wheat grass, oat grass, whey protein and so forth.

Another great post from Team Beachbody Coach and featured contributor Marvin Manzano of LA Fit Club. Labor Day and football season are approaching. Keep yourself in check!

How to say “NO” to Food Pushers…

With Labor Day just around the corner and families getting together, there’s always food involve. And you know how it goes, your favorite aunt Bessy means well, she really does, but her food pushing does little for your healthy diet plan…

“Just a little piece,” she’ll say, wafting her delicious, freshly baked brownies under your nose. “You can’t live on lettuce forever” — you’re feeling tempted — “How about a little of my apple pie?” she says looking a little down-heartened. “Come on, it’s your favorite!”
You’ve been there, right? But, what should you do?
You don’t want to offend, but you’ve been so good, and that innocent looking piece of pie could send you right off your diet… again!
It’s a tough one!
Food pushers are everywhere, whether it’s your weekly Sunday dinner at the in-laws, or those special celebrations. They’re difficult to avoid, and almost impossible to say no to.

Here are 3 ways to say no to a food pusher:

1. Honesty is the best policy!
Not always easy, but talking to your family and friends about what you’re trying to achieve is important.
This will help them to understand that you haven’t suddenly developed an aversion to their fab blueberry muffins, it’s just that you’re committed to your weight-loss efforts, and you really want to give it a go this time.

2. Stall a little
Dessert can be difficult to say no to. And, it usually makes it’s way around the table soon after dinner, before your stomach has had the chance to register just how full you really are.
So, by holding back for a while, you’ll be in a better position to assess just how much, if any, you can eat, and you’ll probably find if you do have some dessert after, you’ll be happy to eat a lot less.
Just say something like, “Maybe I’ll have some in a little while, I’m too full right now.”
Then, divert the conversation to something else, if they’re still not getting the point.
After a break, you may find your craving for something sweet has passed, and it’ll be much easier to give a firm no to the offer later on.

3. Portion control
If there’s something on offer that you’d really like to try, have it… just eat a smaller amount than you normally would.
Enjoy each mouthful, complement the chef on their delicious cooking, just remember to say no to any offer of seconds.
When a food pusher is around, you need to be assertive, not aggressive, when you are saying no to them.
Mostly, they don’t actually mean to sabotage your diet with their food pushing, but you need to stand your ground regardless.
Remember, it’s your health. Make it your top priority. Take control of the situation, before it controls you.
What are your tips for avoiding a food pusher? I welcome any other suggestions, we all have them and always need help.

Yesterday Team Beachbody reached 30,000 Coaches! This is a huge milestone in the growth of this company. I thought I’d show you how CEO Carl Daikeler and President John Congdon celebrated this event.

This is exciting for two reasons. First, it means our company is growing and the army of people dedicated to getting healthy and fit has expanded. Second, it represents tremendous opportunity. Team Beachbody needs 1,000,000 Coaches to serve 100,000,000 customers. If you are interested in joining our Team and helping us with our mission, please look over the information on this page.

A few thoughts about the comments. First, Insanity is very intense. It is designed that way. This is not a starter program or something that people should take lightly. I do know people that continue doing Insanity well after their 60 day period is over. Most people finish the program and then use the workouts in conjunction with other programs, like P90X. Second, nutrition is important. If you follow 100% of the Insanity Elite Nutrition Guide, you will get the best results. However, that is not the only way to get results. We recommend that people follow the 80/20 rule. That basically means that 80% of the foods you take in are good quality whole foods. No processed crud, no refined sugars and no alcohol. 20% of your nutrition can be more relaxed. That lets you live your life. If you want better results tweak the rule to 90/10. Here are my Healthy Eating Tips for Success, which includes the 80/20 Rule.

My latest nutritional quest has been to eat things with lower numbers of ingredients in them. Sounds like a simple plan, right? Well, it is…and it works quite well. I am not going to go into this concept too much here because I am currently in the middle of a experiment with this type of eating that I will write a detailed blog about when the experiment is complete. What I will tell you is that, so far, the results are dramatic and exciting. The basic concept is to minimize the number of ingredients that you eat during the day. This forces you to eat foods that are less processed and closer to their natural state (whole foods). It is not “fool-proof” because things like French fries don’t have very many ingredients…so you still have to apply the laws of nutritional common sense…such as “don’t eat deep-fried foods”. However, in general, the idea forces you to eat healthier.

Why am I telling you this in a blog post that is supposed to be about Lara Bars? Well, because Lara Bars fit quite well into a low-ingredient, whole food diet and they have been a staple in my diet during this experiment.

So, what are Lara Bars?

Lara Bars are nothing but fruit, nuts, healthy oils, and spices in a bar form that can be taken anywhere as a snack. They are gluten-free, dairy-free, soy-free, non-gmo, kosher, and vegan (NOTE: The three newest flavors contain a simple, 4-ingredient chocolate chip that has no milk in it but it is made on a line that also makes chocolate chips with milk so they are not claiming those three flavors to be 100% dairy-free, soy-free, or vegan).

You will find that each and every bar has about 5 ingredients with some being as low as 2 ingredients. They are just plain old simple whole foods!

Why should you eat Lara Bars?

Do you like convenient snacks that take no preparation and taste really good and are actually good for you? Well, there you go…that is reason enough. I used to eat things like Power Bars and Zone Perfect Bars and Clif Bars as a “healthy snack”. Now, I am not going to say that you should never eat one of those bars but let me just show you the ingredients in a Power Bar Triple Threat Energy Bar (Smores flavor):

Ingredients:
CHOCOLATEY COATING (SUGAR, FRACTIONATED PALM KERNEL OIL, COCOA, WHEY, NONFAT MILK, SOY LECITHIN, NATURAL VANILLA FLAVOR), CORN SYRUP, CHOCOLATE CRÈME FILLING (CORN SYRUP, SUGAR, PALM OIL, WATER, ALKALIZED COCOA, CORN SYRUP SOLIDS, NONFAT MILK, CHOCOLATE, NATURAL FLAVOR, CARRAGEENAN, SOY LECITHIN), TRISOURCE™ PROTEIN BLEND (WHEY PROTEIN ISOLATE, CALCIUM CASEINATE, SOY PROTEIN ISOLATE), MALTITOL SYRUP, VEGETABLE GLYCERIN, OAT FIBER, SOY CRISPS (SOY PROTEIN ISOLATE, TAPIOCA STARCH, SALT), MARSHMALLOW FLAVORED NUGGETS (SUGAR, MALTODEXTRIN, VEGETABLE GLYCERIN, PALM KERNEL OIL, RICE FLOUR, DEXTROSE, GUM ARABIC, WATER, NATURAL FLAVOR, CORNSTARCH), HIGH OLEIC CANOLA OIL, AND LESS THAN 2% OF ALMOND BUTTER, NATURAL FLAVORS (CONTAINS SOY LECITHIN), PEANUT FLOUR, SALT, SOY LECITHIN, MINERALS: CALCIUM PHOSPHATE, POTASSIUM PHOSPHATE, FERROUS FUMARATE (IRON), VITAMINS: ASCORBIC ACID (VITAMIN C), VITAMIN B6 HYDROCHLORIDE, RIBOFLAVIN (VITAMIN B2), THIAMINE MONONITRATE (VITAMIN B1). CONTAINS ALMOND, MILK, PEANUT AND SOY INGREDIENTS. MADE ON EQUIPMENT THAT ALSO PROCESSES WHEAT.

Nutrition Facts:
Calories: 230 Fat: 8g Protein: 10g Carbs: 31g

I used to eat one of those every day after my workout. Now, there may be some healthy stuff in there but I don’t know what half of it even is.

Now how about the Lara Bar (Apple Pie flavor…which is very readily available at your local grocery store or even Costco):

Ingredients:

DATES, ALMONDS, UNSWEETENED APPLES, WALNUTS, RAISINS, CINNAMON

Nutrition Facts:
Calories: 190 Fat: 10g Protein: 4g Carbs: 24g

Ok, now how many of you are worried about the fact that the Lara Bar only had 4g of protein compared to 10g in the power bar? Admit it…that is the first thing you saw and you are worried about it. Why though? Wouldn’t it be better for you to get your protein from a lean whole protein source like fish or chicken rather than the trademarked, processed protein blend in the power bar? I would be more worried about the 8g of fat that come from unhealthy sources like “fractionated palm kernel oil” (which is mentioned at least 3 times) in the power bar. Where does the fat come from in the Lara Bar? Walnuts and Almonds! Both are sources of healthy, cholesterol-lowering fats! These are the things that we should be putting in our bodies!!! Where are the carbs coming from in the Lara Bar? Mostly from fruit. Where are they coming from in the Power Bar? Things like sugar, milk, cornstarch, rice flour, and corn syrup.

Ok, so let’s assume that I have convinced you that Lara Bars are healthier than Power Bars and you really want to eat Lara Bars but you still have one question: Do they taste good? A very valid question! Below, I will review each and every Lara Bar flavor currently available and tell you what I think. If you don’t want to read every one, hear is the general statement: I LOVE almost every flavor. There are currently 19 flavors available and I have personally tried 14 of them. My wife has tried 2 more that I haven’t and there are 3 that neither of us has tried. Of the 14 that I have tried, I dislike 2 of them. The rest are great. Here are the reviews:

Apple Pie (DATES, ALMONDS, UNSWEETENED APPLES, WALNUTS, RAISINS, CINNAMON)

Does it taste like an Apple Pie? Well, not exactly but it certainly reminds you of apple pie in a very noticeable way. This flavor is just plain good and very easy to find.

Banana Bread (ALMONDS, DATES, UNSWEETENED BANANAS)

This is one of the few flavors that I have not tried. Here is what the website says: With its blend of bananas, dates and almonds – it’s like biting into a slice of luscious banana bread. Each bar, in fact, contains one whole banana and enough dates to meet 12% of the daily recommended allowance of potassium. Almonds, meanwhile, provide Vitamin E, antioxidants and 2.7 grams of heart-healthy Omega-6 fatty acids. Healthy, yes, but delicious, too.

Carrot Cake (DATES, ALMONDS, WALNUTS, RAISINS, PINEAPPLE, UNSWEETENED COCONUT, CARROTS, CINNAMON, EXTRA VIRGIN COCONUT OIL)

OMG (as they say in the IM world), this may be the best flavor ever. Of course, I LOVE carrot cake for dessert…the only thing better than carrot cake is carrot cake with ice cream (hey, isn’t this blog about healthy food….oops). Anyway, this is an awesome flavor that definitely resembles carrot cake. This one is going to be in stock at my house regularly.

Cashew Cookie (CASHEWS, DATES)

Not quite as good as Peanut Butter Cookie (reviewed below) but still quite good. I can’t say that I have ever had an actual Cashew Cookie but this flavor is definitely a winner regardless. A top 5 selection. Cashews are my favorite nut though so that probably has something to do with it.

Cherry Pie (DATES, ALMONDS, UNSWEETENED CHERRIES)

Does it taste like a Cherry Pie? Again, not exactly. I don’t like this flavor personally as much as the Apple Pie but I do not mind it at all. Again, it certainly gives you a hint of pie with every bite. This one is also one of the easy to find flavors.

Chocolate Coconut (DATES, ALMONDS, WALNUTS, UNSWEETENED COCOA POWDER, UNSWEETENED COCONUT)

This is one of the flavors that I don’t like. When Lara Bars first came out Costco used to sell a three-pack of Chocolate Coconut, Cherry Pie, and Apple Pie. We never really liked the Chocolate Coconut because it is a little too bitter with the cocoa powder. I guess our tastes are just spoiled by sweetened milk chocolate. Costco three-packs in this area now come with Apple Pie, Cherry Pie, and Peanut Butter Cookie…hmm, I wonder why. Anyway, there may be some out there that like it but this is one of the two flavors that I won’t eat.

Chocolate Chip Brownie (DATES, CHOCOLATE CHIPS [unsweetened chocolate, sugar, cocoa butter and vanilla], ALMONDS, WALNUTS, COCOA POWDER, SALT

So, this is one of the three new flavors where they have decided to add chocolate chips to the ingredients. Up until now, the word “sugar” has never been seen in the ingredients list of a Lara Bar that I know of. I was shocked to see this and I am not sure what to think about it. The chocolate chips are made with fair trade ingredients and have no milk in them but I am still not sure what to think. Is Lara Bar selling out? Well, here is the taste review though: Unbelievably good! If you are going to have some sweetened chocolate, here is the place to do it. It is as healthy as it can get.

Chocolate Chip Cookie Dough (CASHEWS, DATES, CHOCOLATE CHIPS [unsweetened chocolate, sugar, cocoa butter and vanilla], SALT)

Haven’t tried this one yet. Sounds good though.

Cinnamon Roll (DATES, ALMONDS, WALNUTS, CASHEWS, RAISINS, CINNAMON)

Definitely another winner here. This flavor really does give your mouth the sensation of eating a cinnamon roll. I would have to say that this flavor is in my top five for sure. A candidate (along with Peanut Butter Cookie) for your first Lara Bar if you have never had one.

Cocoa Mole (DATES, ALMONDS, WALNUTS, UNSWEETENED COCOA POWDER, CINNAMON, CHILI)

This is one of the flavors that I have yet to try so I can’t really tell you what I think of it. Here is the description from the website: Holy Môlé! – This bar’s distinguishing ingredient, chili, boasts a subtle, gradual heat. The unexpected combination of spicy and sweet is perfect for indecisive types looking for a nutrition boost. Cocoa Mole packs antioxidant-rich cocoa, protein-loaded almonds and the Omega-3 superstar walnuts, all which contribute to 20% of daily fiber requirements. This ‘hot’ chocolate will have everyone singing ‘OLÉ!’

Coconut Cream Pie (DATES, UNSWEETENED COCONUT, ALMONDS, CASHEWS, ORGANIC EXTRA VIRGIN COCONUT OIL)

Think Key Lime Pie (reviewed below) without the lime. Still good flavor and again one that I thought I wouldn’t care for. Surprised again.

Ginger Snap (DATES, ALMONDS, PECANS, CINNAMON, GINGER, CLOVES)

I have not tried this one but my wife has. She says that it is pretty good but the ginger is rather strong…maybe too strong. So, stay away from this one if you don’t want a strong ginger flavor.

Key Lime Pie (DATES, CASHEWS, ALMONDS, UNSWEETENED COCONUT, LIME JUICE CONCENTRATE)

I didn’t think that I would like this one because I don’t like lemon or lime desserts but I was pleasantly surprised. I can’t say when the last time was that I tried an actual key lime pie so I don’t really have a good sense for what that tastes like. However, what I do know is that the lime and coconut flavors in this bar go very nicely with the nuts. Surprisingly good.

Lemon Bar (DATES, CASHEWS, ALMONDS, LEMON JUICE CONCENTRATE, NATURAL LEMON FLAVOR)

My wife has tried this one, but I have not. She says it tastes like a baked dessert lemon bar.

Peanut Butter & Jelly (DATES, PEANUTS, UNSWEETENED CHERRIES, SALT)

Just like what it sounds. It really does taste like peanut butter and cherry jelly.

Peanut Butter Chocolate Chip (DATES, PEANUTS, CHOCOLATE CHIPS [unsweetened chocolate, sugar, cocoa butter and vanilla], SALT)

This is also one of the three new flavors with chocolate chips. I must say, without talking about the healthfulness of chocolate chips, this is the BEST flavor of Lara Bar that I have tried. UNBELIEVABLE

Peanut Butter Cookie (PEANUTS, DATES, SALT)

No doubt about it, this is one of my favorites. I love Peanut Butter flavored dessert items and this really does resemble a Peanut Butter cookie. It is amazing that those three simple ingredients can taste that good but I tell you no lie. If you are new to Lara Bars, this would be a candidate for your first ever Lara Bar for sure.

Pecan Pie (DATES, PECANS, ALMONDS)

I like this flavor just fine but I find that it is overshadowed by cinnamon roll. The tastes are somewhat similar but the cinnamon and cashews just give the cinnamon roll a little more flavor. Nothing wrong with this flavor though…I would just pick cinnamon roll over this one if I had the choice.

Tropical Fruit Tart (DATES, PINEAPPLE, UNSWEETENED COCONUT, ALMONDS, ORGANIC EXTRA VIRGIN COCONUT OIL, CASHEWS, ORANGE JUICE CONCENTRATE, ORANGE PEEL)

This is the second one that I dislike. The flavor and consistency of this one is just not that great. It is not disgusting but I would never buy this flavor again.

Well, there you have it. What an amazing variety of flavors and most of them are good! Unfortunately, many of the flavors are hard to find in normal stores. We order most of ours in boxes online. You can find Applie Pie, Cherry Pie, Cashew Cookie, and Peanut Butter Cookie fairly easily in a grocery store but be prepared to order many of the other flavors if your stores are anything like the ones here in Bremerton, WA.

Team Beachbody Coach, featured contributor and founder of LA Fit Club, Marvin Manzano talks about the battle to lose weight, what works and what doesn’t.

Why you’re FAT and You’ll stay FAT

I know the Title seems a little harsh but sometimes that’s what we need.
Please read and share with somebody you love, it might help them get started in living a healthier life style.
Have you been struggling to lose weight most of your life? It’s clear that many people already know a lot about dieting. But, why do so many find it difficult to lose weight, or indeed maintain any weight lost?
There are many possible answers to this questions, but few certainties!
For sure there are those who suffer from medical conditions, which prevents them losing significant amounts of weight, but setting that aside for now, here are a few other possibilities.

So, what’s keeping you fat?

#1 You skip breakfast

Studies show that those who consume breakfast are more likely to maintain a healthy body weight. Check out 25 Breakfast Ideas for the Bleary Eyed for fresh ideas on what to eat.

#2 You starve yourself

Depriving yourself of food in an attempt to lose weight is counter productive. If you miss meals, food tends to get stored up, therefore metabolism slows down, which is the total opposite of what you want to happen!
Eating small, regular meals is much more effective for most people.

#3 You eat in response to emotions

If you get stressed by the things that go on in your life, try writing about them in a journal. Expressing your thoughts is one of the best ways to deal with them. Do you have particular trigger situations? How can you deal with this in the future without resorting to food? Write about this to.

#4 You don’t plan ahead

What would you like to achieve? You should note down 1 or 2 specific, realistic goals, which you display in a prominent place, and then read over frequently to help you stay focused.
Check out Getting SMART with Goal Setting for more tips.

#5 Your home is packed to the brim with unhealthy foods

Is it more like temptation city, than a haven of healthy foods? Okay if that’s the case, you can change it! Get rid of the junk, and replace it with healthy foods you enjoy (or re-train your taste buds to enjoy).
But, remember to allow yourself a treat now and again – healthy eating isn’t about excluding all your favourite foods, it’s about getting the proportions right.

#6 You eat too fast

Do you eat so fast your stomach barely has time to signal the need to stop?
Try chewing each bite, and putting down your fork between mouthfuls. Remember that TV watching can lead to unconscious overeating, so instead sit at the table, and try to become more familiar with your hunger state.

#7 You’re too lazy

Come on challenge me on this one! What activities do you enjoy? What skills would you like to improve? Try putting extra effort into all of your daily activities for accelerated calorie burning, and better quality of life long-term.

#8 Other things take up your time

What do you spend most of your day doing? Are you a full-time mom, a pro blogger, or a business exec? It’s possible that you simply don’t have enough time to get healthy. How can you change that? Is it an organisational skills problem, or something else?

#9 You don’t have hobbies

What does your spare time consist of? Is it taken up with watching TV, or sitting at your computer? What can you do instead? How about taking up a new hobby, walking to your friends house, or perhaps taking the kids to the park more often?
It doesn’t have to be something particularly energetic, just something you enjoy, it’s better than being parked in front of the telly all evening, right?

#10 You’re too confident

Do you drop 10 or 20 pounds, then start thinking you’re a “Weight Loss” champion? Next thing you know, you’re back on the pizza and beer, and rapidly gaining back your original weight.
How can you avoid this yo-yo scenario in the future? Well, it’s simply about goal setting. So, with each 10 pounds you drop, reassess your diet, and set new goals for the coming weeks, rather than slackening off on your new healthier habits.

#11 You have a negative attitude

Believing that you can change is really important. If you tell yourself you can’t succeed, you won’t – simple as that! Empower yourself by thinking positively, and believing that you really can reach your goals.

#12 “Tomorrow” never seems to come!

Remember, weight loss is a journey, and unfortunately it doesn’t become any easier if you wait. So, why not get the most difficult part over with right now by starting today?

#13 You just don’t care enough

I actually already know this isn’t true – you wouldn’t have reached the bottom of the page if it were. So, it’s time to start taking care of your body! What are your goals for achieving a healthier lifestyle?
I’d love to hear from you – what difficulties do you have? What would help you overcome some of your weight loss struggles?
Send me an email.
Take care of your self and make it a great day.

Here’s the trailer for a new moving out on DVD called A Killer at Large. The movie is about obesity. This country is slowly eating itself to death. We are killing ourselves and our children. What the hell are we doing here people? If this was cancer, there would be an endless stream of telethons to stop it. Obesity isn’t cancer, it is a curable and easily avoidable disorder. We need to get some urgency with respect to this issue or our children are the one’s that will pay the price.

Mainstream Culture and P90X!

Have you viewed the landscape of American culture lately? Well, you don’t have to own a microscope or even a pair of cheap Tasco fold up binoculars to see P90X is rising like the sun on the horizon. Whether it’s an office party, costume party, or Halloween, P90X is showing it’s results on physiques everywhere you look. Sports icons, celebrity icons, politicians, the military and yes, even musicians and performers are using P90X to get in the best shape of their lives. Look into your circle of friends and acquaintances and chances are someone is having or had a recent “transformation”.

Some may not have to look further than the local high school to find that P90X is shining brightly. Recently, my 13 year old daughter came home excited about what the high school marching band is doing in their routines for the upcoming football season. The flag corps is incorporating several moves of the Yoga X workout into their performances. If you are familiar with yoga at all, moves and poses like Warrior 1 and 2, Downward Dog, Reverse Warrior, Cobra, and Tree are to make their debut at the football half-time show on Friday evening in smalltown, USA. Tickets are in hand, not only to see the show but also because some of the football players have been using P90X in their training during the summer as well.

Put on your sunglasses and enjoy the view, people. That blaring sun overhead is P90X and it’s casting a new light and leading the way for anyone to be fit and healthy. Your “transformation” is only 90 days away. Contact me to see how you can get 2 extra programs with your order of P90X for free.

Here’s a great read I found from Success Magazine’s own Christopher Guerriero on your body fat and the importance of water. Enjoy!

Would you like to finally be in control of your body fat level? Yes? Then read this lesson very carefully. The formula is revealed herein.

As one of the most important elements of the human body, water makes up approximately 70 percent of our muscles and about 75 percent of our brains, playing a vital role in the proper functioning of the body and making it an essential part of a healthy diet.

Drinking water also forces fat to be used as fuel, making it one of the main keys to success in shedding any extra pounds. Without adequate water, kidneys are unable to function properly—prompting the liver to pick up the slack. This causes additional problems for dieters because the liver cannot properly metabolize stored fat as energy, resulting in more fat being stored in the body.

Furthermore, water effectively suppresses appetites, aids in proper digestion and acts as one of the vehicles for circulating nutrients and oxygen through the body, as well as assists the body in eliminating waste. Water lubricates joints, protects organs, helps maintain a normal body temperature and is absolutely necessary for exercise and even day-to-day performance. With this in mind, it’s easy to understand why drinking enough water—a minimum of 10, 8-ounce glasses a day, every day—is perhaps the single most important step in determining diet and fitness success.

However, because the average body loses 8 to 12 cups of water a day, this can be a challenge. Start by trying to drink 10 glasses each day, and work up to one full gallon per day.

Sound tough? Don’t get discouraged. With the following suggestions, you’ll find drinking enough water is not hard, and will be well worth the initial effort by quickly bringing into your life all the positive changes you’re looking for, including fat loss; healthier skin, hair and nails; increased energy and alertness and far more.

Start tomorrow by drinking a glass of water when you wake up. For a nice morning pick-me-up you might even add a few tablespoons of lemon juice and a small pinch of cayenne pepper to your first glass. Then prepare a large water bottle to take with you on your drive to work or to school. You can even try putting the bottle in the freezer the night before and filling it with water right before you leave to start your day. This keeps the water cooler longer and ensures it will be a good drinking temperature during your morning commute.

Drink a glass of water between every meal and a glass in the evening, but not too close to bedtime. Take a filled water bottle with you wherever you go.
This makes getting the water you need easy and ensures you will look better (and feel better). At work, keep your water bottle filled and with you at your desk. Reach for it instead of unnecessary, high-sugar, high-fat snacks. Sip on it all day, adding ice cubes and additional water as needed.

Next, change from caffeinated coffee, tea and soda to decaffeinated alternatives. Caffeine depletes your water supply and can make it difficult for your body to get all the water it needs. For every caffeinated beverage you drink, drink an additional glass of water. This small step can make a big difference.
Keep in mind that exercise, hot weather, low humidity, altitude, a high-fiber diet and consumption of caffeine and alcoholic beverages all increase your daily water loss. During these times, take extra steps to ensure you offset the increased water loss with increased water consumption.

Keep up the water intake.
