Hi Everyone!

My name is Brian. So, here's my story....

I used to be in the military. This always required some sort of physical fitness, at least enough to pass the required annual fitness tests. Being in shape wasn't an issue for me then, things were great, was able to knock out push ups, pull ups, sit ups with no issues, ran 2 miles in about 14 minutes, was in pretty good shape. I finished my obligation, was honorably discharged in 2003.

That's when things went south. With no reason and no one to push me, I let myself go. :(

Within 5 years, I have gained about 50 pounds. I looked and felt horrible. Was constantly relying on caffeine to keep myself going. Early this year the combination of years of my poor habits finally erupted. I was going for a new job and one of the requirements was a physical. During the physical, they said I had high blood pressure. They referred me back to my private physician for follow up. He ordered complete blood work ups on me. It got even worse. I was told in addition I had ridiculously high cholesterol, and I was now diabetic. The doctor prescribed me medication, so now I have to take pills for the rest of my life. He also told me to lose some weight, which I knew already. I joined a gym, tried working out, went 3-4 times a week. Something was wrong though, I knew my health was in great jeopardy but I didn't have the drive. So I stopped going.

I was up late one night watching TV, and I saw the P90X infomercial. Then I thought 'meh, another get in great shape with this gadget that will probably sit in your closet after you use it twice'. Went to my computer to check email, my facebook, etc. The infomercial was still on, I started hearing things that I liked, hearing Tony talk about the routines and approach. I liked what I was hearing. I started really watching the infomercial now. The workouts are similar to the ones I did in the Army, so basic, simple, but effective. It included yoga, martial arts type fitness training, calisthenics. It was a very well rounded formula. I went online again, started watching transformation videos on youtube, googling P90X, getting as much info as I could. It looked like this was the program I was looking for. I also have pretty good knowledge on health nutrition and supplements (I'm one of those 'I know in theory but do not practice' kind of guys) and the approach that the program takes is excellent and very well balanced. I ordered the program along with P90X plus for later.

I've been doing the program for about 2 weeks now, I feel great. I'm sore all the time, but it feels so good! I'm following the portioning approach on the diet. Within the past 2 weeks, I've dropped 7 pounds, I feel more flexible, and have so much more energy. I wasn't able to finish a few of the workouts the 1st week, my thighs are pretty weak and give out before anything else. The second week I did so much better and was able to keep up and not hit the pause button as much.

Reason I ended up here is because this site popped up the most when I was doing research on the program, and I really like what Dave and Monica have to say about things.

I press play everyday, curse Tony out on the TV as he helps me destroy the old and rebuild the new. I'm going to keep powering through, bury these bad lifestyle diseases, and come out feeling the best I ever have in my life! :D

Hey Brian,

Wow, great story. Honestly, hearing these stories never gets old to me. I was thinking about this just yesterday. Someone contacted me on Twitter wanting help getting in shape. He was so sad that he was where he was. I sent him a link to our before and after pictures and let him know that fitness isn't for anyone, it is for everyone. That willingness to put yourself out there, tell your story and CHANGE is what separates Beachbody from the typical fitness model where you only show the AFTER picture. This is about the journey, not the destination.

I'm really glad you found us. Monica just started a new thread for a 30 day challenge (she's the queen of the 30 day challenge) starting in January. Be sure to look for us there. Surf around and feel free to chime in wherever you like. Everyone here is really friendly.

Don't hesitate to contact either of us directly if you have questions as well. My email addy is dave@thefitclubnetwork.com.

Hi Brian! Welcome to the site! I just joined the site, too, but have been lurking for quite a while. Glad to have you here. You sound like you're in a similar situation as my husband. He was in the Army for four years, was in great shape, then after he was honorably discharged in 2003, he started to not work out as much. He gained a little over 40lbs and was in pretty crappy shape. We bought P90x last February after seeing the infomercials and having his friends in his Police Academy encourage him to buy it. He's now lost about 35lbs and looks like a completely different person! In any case, good luck in all your fitness endeavors! We'll all be here for you should you have any questions.

Welcome Brian!

First i want to say THANK YOU for your service!
Your story is awesome! and so similar to mine! minus the whole being in the military and getting health issues, but i too heard the P90X infomercial one night during one of my insomnia episodes, and said the SAME THING. it took me about 4 weekends of P90X infomercials to start looking in to it. I took it as God giving me a sign to get up off my butt and get to it.
I knew that i wasn't physically capable of doing the X so i opted for his 10 minute trainer to start working my way up. i saw and felt results quickly and then i started to feel i needed a challenge and ordered the great body series to add to the 10 minute trainer.
After completing that and the 10 i opted to step it up a notch and purchased Chalean Extreme, I LOVE this workout program, and for an added bonus i ordered Turbo Jam too! and i just purchased the Brazil Butt Lift.

My goal is to finish these programs first. I'm about 1/2 way done with chalean, i JUST started the Butt Lift last night... and as for Turbo? I'll never get tired of that so it's a staple. Once completed i'm hoping to start P90X. and by the end of 2010 have completed that and Insanity.

In between all of that i decided to become an Independent Beachbody coach. I believe in the product because the programs work if you work the programs. Tony, Chalene, Debbie, Shaun are all GREAT motivators and an inspiration to me! I don't think i have been this happy in my entire life!

Thank you for sharing your story, and thanks for putting up with mine! lol
Good luck on your fit-journey and i'll see you on the boards! if you are in the wowy network buddy me i'm Eclipsenfitclub

Take care and have a happy, healthy, safe and prosperous New Year!
