Hi Everyone!
My name is Brian. So, here's my story....
I used to be in the military. This always required some sort of physical fitness, at least enough to pass the required annual fitness tests. Being in shape wasn't an issue for me then, things were great, was able to knock out push ups, pull ups, sit ups with no issues, ran 2 miles in about 14 minutes, was in pretty good shape. I finished my obligation, was honorably discharged in 2003.
That's when things went south. With no reason and no one to push me, I let myself go. :(
Within 5 years, I have gained about 50 pounds. I looked and felt horrible. Was constantly relying on caffeine to keep myself going. Early this year the combination of years of my poor habits finally erupted. I was going for a new job and one of the requirements was a physical. During the physical, they said I had high blood pressure. They referred me back to my private physician for follow up. He ordered complete blood work ups on me. It got even worse. I was told in addition I had ridiculously high cholesterol, and I was now diabetic. The doctor prescribed me medication, so now I have to take pills for the rest of my life. He also told me to lose some weight, which I knew already. I joined a gym, tried working out, went 3-4 times a week. Something was wrong though, I knew my health was in great jeopardy but I didn't have the drive. So I stopped going.
I was up late one night watching TV, and I saw the P90X infomercial. Then I thought 'meh, another get in great shape with this gadget that will probably sit in your closet after you use it twice'. Went to my computer to check email, my facebook, etc. The infomercial was still on, I started hearing things that I liked, hearing Tony talk about the routines and approach. I liked what I was hearing. I started really watching the infomercial now. The workouts are similar to the ones I did in the Army, so basic, simple, but effective. It included yoga, martial arts type fitness training, calisthenics. It was a very well rounded formula. I went online again, started watching transformation videos on youtube, googling P90X, getting as much info as I could. It looked like this was the program I was looking for. I also have pretty good knowledge on health nutrition and supplements (I'm one of those 'I know in theory but do not practice' kind of guys) and the approach that the program takes is excellent and very well balanced. I ordered the program along with P90X plus for later.
I've been doing the program for about 2 weeks now, I feel great. I'm sore all the time, but it feels so good! I'm following the portioning approach on the diet. Within the past 2 weeks, I've dropped 7 pounds, I feel more flexible, and have so much more energy. I wasn't able to finish a few of the workouts the 1st week, my thighs are pretty weak and give out before anything else. The second week I did so much better and was able to keep up and not hit the pause button as much.
Reason I ended up here is because this site popped up the most when I was doing research on the program, and I really like what Dave and Monica have to say about things.
I press play everyday, curse Tony out on the TV as he helps me destroy the old and rebuild the new. I'm going to keep powering through, bury these bad lifestyle diseases, and come out feeling the best I ever have in my life! :D
