Hi Everyone -

Week 1 here. Doing great but confused. I'm on Fat Shredder Level 1 Phase 1 and so far i'm coming up with another portions to fill my boxes on Dave's spreadsheet. HOWEVER, i'm having a hard time living w/o carbs. I wake up pretty hungry so the first thing I go for is a big bowl of Total (200 cal - 1 carb) and some soy milk (dairy). Then I have a banana and that usually tides me over until snack time. Later in the day i'm craving carbs so bad I usually have a tortilla or one of those sandwich thins with my lunch (another 100 cals or so) - really I want to eat a few bagels but I resist. I'm not really worried about adding the calories since I'm usually under calories each day. Is okay to add carbs? I still want to cut some weight and tone up but i'm worried if I eat carbs too much it won't work.

I also probably need to mention that I'm also running and training for a half so today I ran pretty far and hard. I did not do a P90x workout today b/c I didn't think my body to take burning more calories since I think I burned over 700 today with just the run.

Any suggestions?

ps. i'm waiting for my bb protein bars and recovery drink to come in the mail. can't wait to get them.

Hey, hey.

I know. It can be super hard. The good news is that you'll get them back in Phase II of the diet and when you do, your body will be able to process them more efficiently.

If you are training for a half-marathon in addition to doing P90X, then the high-protein diet is probably not for you. I'd move to Phase II. You really need more carbs for recovery and energy if you are doing that much exercise. Be sure to eat enough as well. If you are doing both, you are likely burning well in excess of 1,000 calories. You need to replenish at least some of those.

Just to clarify, I'm just trying to SURVIVE working out with weights, cardio and run. Today I did just hardcore weights at the gym and ran three miles. I needed to get out the house. The only thing that sucks about P90X is that its at home. With two little ones running around and one needing to be held constantly (or be near me), its hard to get anything done.

So.. I'm not sure I'm burning 600 calories each workout. On some days when Im sore, I do Power 90 cardio or weights and Ab Ripper 200, then if I know i'm going to have a long run, I won't be dead.

I'm going to take my diet now and remove one Protein and add one carb. We will see how that goes. I think that puts me in Level II anyways.

I just need to stick to it. I know i'll see results either way, I just need to be patient.

Ram Velcro kids are so cute...but not when you need to workout.
I'm glad you are going to sub in a carb at every meal. I think it is more important to change your portion amounts than eat a bunch of bagels. The P90X nutrition guide although well thought out and effect is a generalized plan for mass people. If you need more CLEAN carbs then I say have at it. When I did P90X lean and just ate clean I saw all the definition and fat loss than I could have imagined. Not that the plan isn't important, but the proper calories intake and clean food approach can be equally as effective.

You are doing a great job. I saw your half marathon, I am SO JEALOUS that looks like so much fun!

Monica - but the bagels are so good. I haven't had a bagel in a long time... and they are calling my name but I resist. My daughter eats the mini whole wheat ones, maybe i'll sneak of those after a run sometime.

btw, I got my beachbody after workout recovery drink and power bars in the mail today. Just had a bar and now i'm going to work out. yeah. Then going for a run later in the day.

Still having a hard time finding vegetables to go with my meals. There is just so much salad a person can eat. I hear carrots are not that good for you due to the sugar content. What are some of your suggestions for vegetables????

Thanks. (ps. I hope you enjoyed Rudy last night)

Rudy got some tears out of me.

I love the line when Rudy is told, "SINCE WHEN ARE YOU THE QUITTING KIND?"
You know I see that a lot here.
This isn't about perfection, it is about balance. Carrots are CLEAN...hehe not high in sugar. Well compared to other green veggies, but really this is about clean.

One of your daughter's mini whole wheat bagels after a run would be fine. You are doing the extra work. Carbs for me a kryptonite.
They are so goooooooood...but I am supposed to to steer you on a good path here.

I am loving all these runners.
