Hello everyone!

I'm a skiier and recreational runner looking to take my fitness to a new level with strength training using P90X starting February 1. My husband sold me on P90X - I've been putting off consistent cross-training for the future, and even then only considered swimming and cycling. He's interested in building muscle, laid a bunch of guilt on me about supporting his fitness goals, and looking through the materials made me realize P90X isn't an adrenaline-fueled gimmick sold to men like I had initially thought :)

I've been using Ab Ripper X stand-alone as a core strengthener already, and I've seen clear improvement both in my ability to do the moves and in my running form. (I wish I could see if it'd make a difference in skiing as well, but unfortunately I haven't had a chance yet.)

I want to build base miles for racing later in the year during the next three months to keep the running simple and save my mental workout energy for P90X. Like most runners, I'm pretty goal-oriented and have a day-by-day mileage and run purpose plan for the P90X time :) I really hope I'm not overreaching with trying to keep running as well, like David I hate the idea of not running for three months!

I recently finished a pretty work-intense period of my life, similar to Dave studying for the bar, and it wrecked my running routine as well as my eating patterns. I gained 10 lb, which I want to get rid of, and I want my cardiovascular capacity back, and strength gains are going to be the icing on the cake.

I am ready to BRING IT!

Hey Teresa - Thanks for joining us. I've seen more and more people use P90X to cross train for both running and triathlon. The common wisdom that has lead people to chronically overtrain one specific set of muscles to perform one specific action, is starting to come around. We are starting to realize that cross training avoids injury and that being more flexible means we can get even faster on the bike becuase we can get in a better position that we can hold for a longer amount of time. Plus, it is just not so darn boring. I have exercise ADD. I need to keep changing what I'm doing. P90X and the other programs like Insanity and One on One's give me a lot of that variety I need. A couple of inches of water on the ground today doesn't have me very excited to go for a bike ride today, so strength training it is.

Check out the other forums as well. We've got 'em for everything. Feel free to start your own as well.

Hi Theresa! Welcome to the boards! We'll both be doing P90x at about the same time. My husband and I (along with a Twitter friend) are starting tomorrow. It'll be so much fun! Enjoy it!

One day at a time, right? I did Ab Ripper X yesterday and I want to do it today too. Right now in fact. But that would be stupid, so I'm just looking forward to my run :D

Not necessarily stupid, just probably overkill. The abs recovery very quickly. Most people can't do ARX every day in the beginning, but as you get stronger you'll find you can do it 5 times a week if you want to. The question is whether you need to. The answer...probably not. If you want to get after it, then go for it.
