Quick Recovery Drink question...
Most days I do my P90X workouts after work (about 5pm) and have my recovery drink right after. But sometimes I can't fit my workout in until right before bed (10-11pm). Should I still drink my recovery drink on these days? Is it okay to have the calories at bedtime?
Thanks,
Jenna
I would not drink it that late. We've been having this disucsion on the Primal Blueprint thread about carbs and the body's response. Well, Recovery Formula has 43g of carbs, and 38g of those are simple sugars. That's just too much to hit your body with late at night. That is going to cause an insulin response and you just don't want to do that right before bed. A protein shake is a good alternative. Most are very easy to digest and won't cause that issue.
Why all the carbs in Recovery Formula? Because they are great for recovery. I use Recovery Formula and I'm going to keep using it. I usually use half a serving and put it in my water during my workout. That cuts the sugars in half, but my body still gets a taste. When I really kill a workout, I'll have a full serving...unless it is late at night. Then I just suck it up and feel a little more sore the next day.
It is good stuff, but you raise a really good point about when to take it.
Hope this helps.
