Like JoeDaddy, I have a military background. The difference is, I'm still with it (or with it again) as a reservist in the Air Force. Their fitness test is killing me and I need something to get me going again. I have until October to get in shape for the fitness test. I have it in my mind that I can't possibly pass it, and that's why I'm here.

Like JoeDaddy again, I need some support.

Gymbeau,

If you can't pass the Air Force fitness test we go a lot of work to do my friend! The best thing is you got a lot of time...by the time Oct rolls around you'll be fine. Just think positive and BRING IT!

I never learned how to run and the pace is fast for me. No doubt, I have a LONG way to go...on every front.

Gymbeau, I'd be glad to help in any way possible. I did 26 years in the Army and have been doing P90X, X+, the One on One videos and other BeachBody workouts for the past 2 years.
So what exercise program are you doing now?

gymbeau: Get P90X. It will whip you into shape. I'd also incorporate sprints into your routine once or twice a week. With those two things alone, you'll breeze through PT.

Gymbeau Welcome on board! Glad to have you here. I think you'll find a lot of great info that will help. ArmyMike used to torture a small group of soldiers on a daily basis to get them ready for this stuff!

If you really want to address this one head-on, I'd suggest going out for a short run and try to run as slowly as you possibly, humanly, can. P90X will take care of intensity and strengthening your muscles, including crucial leg muscles for running. But if you want to make sure you'll ace the run, learning to pace yourself is the key. And the way you start learning that is by running as crazy slow as you possibly can :)
