I haven't looked at the nutrition guide in a long time, but I think each phase goes with each 'segment' or phase of P90X. With that said, if you are trying to lose body fat, keep your carbs relatively low. Eat lots of protein and veggies, moderate amounts of fruit and fat. Cut sugar and processed crap to nil.
Let me know if that helps and if you need anything else.

I interpreted the guide to mean that you need to make that judgement yourself. Essentially, if phase I is working for you and you're not running out of glycogen during workouts, there's not reason to switch. If you're bonking, time to switch to phase II. I was never clear on what criteria they intended you to use to decide when it's time for phase III.
There's no real set time for people to switch. I recommend that people look at it every two weeks. Two weeks on Phase I and let's see if it is working for you. Some people really struggle to get in all the protein that's required in Phase I and that causes them to really struggle. Nutrition needs to be sustainable, and Phase II is a much easier plan to follow because it is more balanced, but still keeps carbs under control and promotes weight loss.
Again, we look it over every two weeks and see what's working and what isn't. That includes an honest assessment of how much you were able to stick with the diet, and how closely you were able to adhere to the Healthy Eating Tips: http://www.thefitclubnetwork.com/community/showthread.php?176-Healthy-Eating-Tips-for-Success. For example, if you are drinking soda then we're not going to make a whole bunch of progress. LOL.

Thanks for the wisdom sir, its working for the most part, tho I do look forward to the cheat meals, no more than 2 a week for me, and I think I WOULD LIKE to incorporate a little more carbs, and as far as dairy goes, I like it but dont eat it in excess, I love cereal and gotta have milk with it, but lately I have just been adding that plus yogurt into my meal replacement shakes, or just eat yogurt separately and drink milk by itself too, I for the most part can say I do follow it, I have to get a little more creative with meals, lik I have just been having burgers and salads and grilled chicken, I am also PATIENTLY waiting for you guys or anyone else that has any recipes,( dont include eggs, or cheese, or weird veggies like cauliflower, im not a HUGE fan of broccoli , or like squash :( thanks guys!

Bryan87 I noticed that you don't eat the easiest veggies to cook. Have you tried Shakeology? It is the easiest way to get all the vitamins, minerals, antioxidants, amino acids, etc that you need daily in a tasty manner.
