Hi everyone!
Please forgive me if this is already answered somewhere -- but I am at a party right now and I completely forgot to bring my pre-prepared pack my own snacks. So here I am (and feeling hungry) and all that surrounds me is crackers, cheese, cookies, candy, bread and dip, beer, diet soda, veggie tray, those little pizza roll things, and chips. ive been snacking on the veggies -- but I'm craving more substance. Would it be better to hold off eating until I leave (probably in about 3 hours)....or try to make the best of the snack foods that are here? I don't see anything of substantial protein...hhmph. Any suggestions?
Along the same lines, on the weekends I am priveleged to sleep in late. If I roll out of bed around lunch time -- is it better to cram in the calories that I 'slept thru' or to just pickup from lunch time on?
Thanks guys!!!

Amie It depends. How has the rest of your week been, nutritionally? I'd say if you have no other choice and your nutrition the rest of the week has been on par, then it'd be okay to snack in moderation. However, stay away from the alcohol (which will lower your ability to say no to other snacks subsequently, and decrease your fat burning and muscle building potential); I'd also stay away from the cheese and pizza rolls (although I am hungry thinking about both), and of course I'd say no to the sugar in the candy. Dang that doesn't leave much does it? I promise I wasn't meaning to knock away all your options. In all seriousness, this is life we are talking about and sometimes you just have to relax. If you are truly hungry and not just hungry because your line of sight includes foods that are tempting and tasty, then I'd say go ahead and nibble here and there. Also keep a glass of water in your hand at all times. Sometimes the mind confuses hunger with thirst. I'd try to drink at least 8 oz of water before picking up any snack foods. But like I said, it really depends on your goals and your progress/position in the plan. It's different if you are just beginning phase 1 versus ending phase 2 or 3. in phase 1 you should strive to stay on track because your body is still adjusting and minor deviations can lead to major setbacks. However, in later in phases 2 and 3, your body and metabolism are revved up enough to where minor deviations are not so detrimental. I posted earlier about "cheat meals." I paid a nutritionist for 4 months back in 2008 before P90X and she only allowed me one "cheat meal" a week. That is why I asked how your nutrition has been the rest of the week? It is Saturday and if all has been well the rest of the week, then enjoy yourself....but be wise!

Thank you so much for your reply!!! I (with a bottle of water in hand) managed to find some almonds and dried fruit (the hostess was very willing to try and help me find something). I am in the early stages of Phase 1 (I had some major setbacks the last month, so I am starting over..hhmph.) -- so I'm nervous to stray from my nutrional plan. But, you are right in that 'such is life' and I am trying to make the most of it. I have successfully curbed the hunger pangs for now -- and I am looking forward to a huge grilled chicken salad when I go home :-)
Again -- thank you so much for your reply!

Amie Great job!!!!! Ask for what you need - I have heard that on these boards more than a few times. The man himself said it.....Mr. Tony Horton. So what if we do things differently than most other people. Eventually those other people will wonder what the heck we are doing to look so good and then we will get to share!!! So here's to you and your grilled chicken salad!!!

Amie: Enjoy yourself just don't over-overindulge. If you feel like it, intermittent fast tomorrow -- you'll feel great!

Amie - I was in the almost exact same situation Friday night. I was going to a wine and appetizer night with the intention of just eating dinner beforehand and considering a glass or two of wine as part of my 10%. Just as I was about the get out the door, I got a call about a job interview, then a call from a recruiter about said job interview, and then a call from a secretary about booking flights for the interview. That was fantastic and all, but it made me get out late - and nixed the time I had allotted for dinner! So in order to not be the (disapproving frown) late, disorganized person, I found myself at this thing with an empty stomach. I'm in phase 2, so I cobbled something together out of the meatballs and (sadly white) dinner rolls with pepperoni inside them. And I might have had a truffle or two, and perhaps more wine than I had counted on. I had to (sort of) pay for skipping a real dinner Saturday, though, I didn't quite feel right and had some funny urges to eat something sweet. I'm more or less back to normal now.
Good for you for asking the hostess for help! I was worried I'd come off as a health snob (i. e. "your food isn't good enough for me") so I tried to make do. Maybe I should have done the same.
