So I have a business trip this week where I will be away from the gym Wednesday thru Friday. Luckily, it's a recovery week, so I am taking my laptop and I will be able to do X Stretch, Yoga, & Core Synergistics in my hotel room.

The problem is that I have gotten pretty spoiled with being able to go home for lunch and make my egg whites & veggies, or mix up a protein shake, and of course make the healthy dinner. Since I won't have the benefit of a kitchen for a couple days, I wanted to see if anyone had some good advice for getting by on the road...

Restaurants, simple meals, etc? I will be in Atlanta, GA, near Perimeter Mall area. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks!

I'll be traveling this week as well. My plan is to stick to as simple food as I can find and to look up some restaurant foods ahead of time. I already know Applebee's weight watchers meals are a normal size and pretty simple, but I don't want to be stuck hunting for Applebee's only. I might also bring some trail mix for snacks, so I won't get caught in front of a doughnut display hungry. I will also ask restaurants to customize meals as necessary - leave off cheese or sauces or whatever I think sounds like a bad idea. You may be able to ask the hotel for eggbeaters or just eggwhites. You're paying, right? :)

Book a hotel suite with a kitchenette and visit the local grocery store. :D

That may or may not be an option, depending on company policy in various ways. It wasn't for me. I also know I will be eating business meals with others, meaning I will have to eat wherever we end up with a minimum of fuss on my part.

My job keeps me on the road 16 days out of the month, and eating healthy on the road is a big challenge. I have found that based on my work schedule (which is rarely the same day in & day out) I eat one main meal a day. That meal is pretty much always a late lunch/early dinner. My typical eating schedule is like this:
Continental breakfast at the hotel (bowl of raisin bran, yogurt & fresh fruit, glass of O.J.). If I get hungry between breakfast and lunch I will eat a Larabar & drink water to hold me over, or grab an apple or banana from the front desk. For lunch, I am partly at the mercy of my two coworkers as far as where we eat. It is never fast food though and always a sit down restaurant, unless it is a sandwich shop. So I generally go with a salad or grilled chicken of some sort. If we have time for dinner, I will normally eat a lite dinner if I had a normal size lunch. Most of the time we are flying during lunchtime or dinnertime, so we rarely get to eat both meals in one day. I bring enough Larabars with me for the week to snack on so that I keep fueling my body. This seems to be working for me, as I feel satisfied throughout the day. I never eat any of the junk on the airplane and only drink water with my meals except for orange juice in the morning. I just received my first box of Shakeology, so I most likely will start bringing that with me as well.

Mark - Thanks for the Lärabar tip. I'm not big on bars but you're right, travel is a great time to 'use' them. Fits in a purse better and with less mess potential than my trail mix idea. Denser packing = ability to carry more ^^

I had a four day trip to SD last month with another coming up this weekend. Last month I roamed across friends' houses so didn't have a hotel room- I planned ahead having one meal "out" per day (like Teresa and Mark, was at the mercy of friends' choices but such is life). I kept food light around the meals out- made a healthy muffin recipe having one in the morning with a protein shake for breakfast each day, I also packed almonds in one ounce servings (either snack sized baggies or the baby tuppeware) and apples as a snack, stopped by Trader Joe's and got single sized Greek yogurt and a banana for second snack, and stuck with veggies and protein as much as possible for meals out- worked out fine.

Try not to stress TOO much, if you can plan the majority of it out ahead of time, you should feel less stressed.

Use intermittent fasting and eat as sensible as possible when you eat out. Use the trip as an opportunity for a free meal and enjoy it.
