Ok, before I get lectured I know I need to get my protein from whole, unprocessed foods. I eat eggs and Ezekiel bread for breakfast, shakeology for my mid AM snack, turkey, broccoli, almonds, and a red grapefruit for lunch, 3-5 C of baby spinach and other veggies with cottage cheese and/or turkey and sunflower seeds for dinner. I have Casien Protein and water or F/F cottage cheese before bed.

My afternoon snack, though, I need to be fast and easy, no prep, and something I enjoy.

I have been eating a Low Sugar DETOUR bar each day: 15 g Protein (whey), 170 cal, 5 g fat, 17 g carb (3 g sugar and 12 g sugar alcohol whatever that is). I like them, they are small, and fast to eat.

I am almost out and I was contemplating the P90X bars but they are 270 cal and almost double the carbs!

Have any of you used these (or other low sugar protein) bars and what are your thoughts? Thank you!!!!!!

Amy,

I had a similar problem with the midday snack. My advice would be to stay away from "protein bars." I have discovered, thanks (or no thanks, depending on your perspective) to Dave, that generally the protein bars that taste good and are worth eating are normally made up of mostly sugar. Or at least things that break down as sugar when you digest them. I have cut them out completely, and have noticed a big difference in results and energy levels.

For my midday snack, I take either one scoop of my protein in a blender bottle and then just add water, or I have some raw trail mix. Occasionally, and only if neccessary, I will have a Larabar (only 4-6 ingredients per bar, but not much protein and I think better for a morning snack after working out).

Not sure if this is what you were looking for, and I am sure you will get some other suggestions. Good luck!

Almost forgot - I use BSN Syntha-6 Strawberry Protein. Approx $30 for 30 servings. Would probably be cheaper than protein bars too...

Thanks. I actually just read the Nutrition Bar thread and gathered the same thing. I have the syntha-6 powder here and will switch over when these are gone. Thanks so much for your help!
