This is my second round of P90X....the first time I did not follow the nutrition plan, rather just did the workouts (which I love). I saw mediocre results, but now I'm ready to see what my body can really do. I bucked up and dug into the nutrition plan to understand it (yowza....is that overwhelming at first!) and started again yesterday. I've been "lurking' in this forum for several weeks now and think it's a great resource. I'm looking forward to having people to bounce ideas off of and questions since I don't actually know anyone else doing P90x.
I've signed up for Fit Day to track my meals and think that will really be a help. I'm a level 1, portion planner.
My biggest concern right now is that it seems like A LOT of food to eat. I made the shrimp stir fry last night and was amazed at how much food there was. Typically I would have made that amount for me AND my husband.
Does anybody else feel this way in the beginning? I keep verifying all of the foods I'm eating because I have a hard time believing I should be eating so much!

Hi Janna!
I started my first round of P90X on 3/27. I am loving the workouts, but am not following the nutrition to a "T". It's been hard to because I am a vegetarian and everything I eat with protein also has carbs. So, what I've been doing is keeping my calories under 1800 (I'm also a Level 1) and making sure I get a lot of protein (whether or not it increases my carb ratio) and eating super healthy. Anyway, I've lost about 1.5 lbs since I started. Just curious, what do you mean by "mediocre" results in your first round? Did you lose weight in addition to getting stronger in the first round? I'm not sure what to expect in terms of results since I am not following the nutrition plan perfectly. I know it's different for everyone, but I'm just curious. I agree, the nutrition part is overwhelming!
Sounds like this go around you're going to be ripped by the end of this round! Good luck and keep us posted!

Hi Christy! Congrats on your progress so far! That is really amazing! I feel pretty good so far, but unfortunately my scale ran out of batteries and I haven't been able to replace them yet. It's keeping my suspense up; but as long as I feel good I'm not too worried about the number just yet. So, when I said I got "mediocre" results last time, I guess I mean I didn't really see a difference on the scale. I felt stronger and could get through the workouts better, but I wasn't dropping any weight, which is what i wanted. I'm 5'6'' and 158 lbs (or at least I was a week and a half ago, ha). I did love the workouts which is why I decided to go round 2....and then I figured since I was working so hard at the physical aspect, why not throw in the nutrition and just see what my body can do. I was eating pretty healthy beforehand, but definitely not in the same ratios as the nutrition plan follows. I'm eating WAY more protein now and hardly any carbs (except from fruits and veggies, and an occasional brown rice, etc.) I would highly recommend adding protein powder to your daily routine if you aren't already - it has really helped me hit my protein goals and ratios.
After a week and a half the nutrition plan is MUCh easier and I'm sure it will only get better....so I would encourage you to consider it!
Good luck in your journey! Keep us posted on your results! Janna

Janna - thanks for the advice! I definitely have some tweaking to do with my diet! Good luck to you this time around! It must feel good going into it already feeling strong from the first round - I'm still feeling the pain! It's a lot better in this second week, though. Best to you!

Hi Janna!
The nutrition guide is quite a daunting read, I think everyone on here will agree with that. The way it has been explained to me as to why the portions seem so big is because the workouts are just that extreme that your body should be burning off all of the fuel you are putting in your body. I am almost done with round 1 of P90X, and have not followed the nutrition to a T either. I am getting better about it though! I have seen pretty good results though - a lot better than I expected from myself anyway! I used to log all my meals into Fit Day, but then was turned onto Livestrong.com - my plate. It breaks all your meals down into a pie chart which shows the percentage of Carbs, Fat & proteins you are eating every day. This helps tremendously, since that is how the nutrition guide breaks it down as well!
Welcome to the boards and if there is anything other questions you might have, feel free to contact me! Good luck with round 2 and following the nutrition guide!

Thanks for the encouragement Mike! I too have switched to Livestrong.com....it is much more user friendly and I have yet to find something lacking from it's database. I've also found that for me, it works better to work towards the proper ratios, rather than the "5 protein, 2 veggie, 1 fruit" instructions in the book. I try to kee my carbs and dairy low unless my ratio is low for the day in carbs or fat. It seems to be working ok so far!
Looking forward to this week (week 3). I already amazed myself yesterday with some wicked diamond pushups and dive bombers. :)
Good luck to you as well! And congrats on the fantastic job you've done so far!
