I am currently on week 6 of P90 and depends on my schedule I workout in the morning and sometimes early afternoon. I would like to know what can I take to help with muscle fatigue during my workout(s)? I prefer to go the natural route because I don't want to keep spending $40-50 a month in addition to my Whey protein(post workout drink) on a pre workout drink. The days I workout in the morning I don't eat or drink anything before I workout and I could feel my muscles tiring out. Any suggestion would be greatly appreciated. Can i drink some of my Whey protein before workout?

Edde,

Believe it or not, you may actually want to try a drink called "FRS." I used it during my marathon training and I have some left over so I use it right before my P90X workouts. You can actually go into a place like Rite-Aid and buy the cans, but some of the flavors really are an acquired taste, so pick carefully. Take some before your workout, and maybe even mix some in for your water during your workout. FRS enhances what your body makes naturally and it uses Quercetin to do so. It's pretty cheap, and they have low calorie ones (I recommend Low Cal Orange - best taste). Some athletes like Lance Armstrong and Derek Fisher swear by it.

any thoughts on N.O.-Xplode made by BSN (used by MMA fighters, huge sponsor of the UFC)?

A few of us here use it. Just start off with smaller servings until you find a nice balance of eyes bugg'n out of your head and heart exploding . . .
Just kidding! Do start off with smaller portions just to see how your body reacts to it. I would not recommend using late evening (unless you stay up all night on purpose). I haven't really used it with P90X but loved it for Insanity.

So far tried lemon-lime, blueberry and waiting for grape to be delivered. Tastes alright but by the end of the tub I am wanting a change.

Eddie: You should be adapting and will no longer get tired during the workout. However, if you are doing fasted workouts, I'd recommend a BCAA like Purple Wraath. It has no calories, minimal (if at all) insulin response, and energy.

You could also use 5-hour Energy, believe it or not. It's a bunch of vitamins with a little caffeine and only 4 calories. I'll occasionally use it after a long fast.

I tried the frs and I didn't noticed any change in my energy, so i got rid of them. I'm not into taking caffeine and sterling you said it right i should be adapting and my stamina should increase and I have seen that. I just wanted something to help me get through workout without my legs feeling like they want to fall off. I'm on week 6 of P90 and I am doing tremendously better than I first started. So i'll just go the route of naturally getting through versus being dependent on something. I'm taking my supplement(whey protein) after my workouts and take my multivitamins everyday. thanks again for everyones input and suggestions.

Just a quick response - I'l try to double back around and add to it, but just wanted to get the thought out there and the conversation started.

In terms of muscle fatigue, you should be looking to properly replenish after a workout and rebuild your muscle glycogen stores and such. Think kinda like the fabled spaghetti dinners before a marathon to pack carbs and energy into the body so it's there to draw from the next day.

With any of the 1-hr long workouts, I believe it's generally accepted that you do not *need* to refuel so much during the workout, but afterwards is the best time. Hydration is key, of course, as well.

Regarding pre-workout drinks and other supplements, many people use them for an energy boost and to buffer fatigue/tiredness/etc. You will get tons of suggestions, but I noticed in your original post that you aren't really jazzed about buying yet another supplement. In the P90X program, Tony suggests adding a little of the recovery drink formula to your water bottle - which is a good suggestion as well. Intra-workout drinks are popular right now and many include BCAAs, creatine, and other stuff - depending upon your goals and your tastes, there is sure to be at least one product you might like... if you are looking for a product at all. Many companies offer samples so you can try them out - some of the flavors are pretty good, some are pretty bad.

Ideally, you will be able to replenish spent gylcogen stores and as your fitness level increases your body is doing all the right things to continue adapting and to improve your recovery and endurance.

One other thing you asked about is would your whey help - not likely... I would save it for post workout or to take it 1-2 hrs before your workout, but not as a fatigue-fighter, just as a quality food source to help you meet your protein macros for the day.
