Welcome! After spending hours of my life watching the Navy SEAL's train in my back yard as a kid, I decided I wanted to know more. Canadian Girl (Helen) and I spent some time reading and learning about the rigorous training SEAL's go through...AND WE ARE INSPIRED!!! We've decided we are ready for BUDs hell week. We are ready for P90X and are going to deliver results.
We want you to join us and take your core to the shore.

B.U.D.S

 Now get to work!

Coach Dave,

I was in BUD/S class 218 if you have any questions. :D

No kidding. That's quite an experience from what I hear. Our in-laws both live in Coronado and we get to watch just a little bit of the training that goes on. One of my little brother's friends was slated to go in with the class this fall, but he's been moved to next year. Probably a good thing for Lt. J.G. Alexander.

That experience and this thread were a big part of my decision to do the SuperFrog this year. I love swimming and cycling, but running is brutal. Doing 13.1 miles, about 2/3'ds of which occurs on the beach, after the swim and bike is pretty daunting, but if I've learned anything it is that the human body is the most adaptable machine on the planet. With time, focus and effort you can teach your body to do just about anything. At least that's what I will keep telling myself.

Dave

The only easy day was yesterday.

I'm the opposite. I love to run and bike, but swimming is brutal for me. That's what got me I think. That and it was February and El Nino was in Town and guys from Colorado don't really have much experience swimming in the Ocean.

So is the run to the "Elephant Cage" along the Strand?

Atleast you will be in tennis shoes and shorts and not boots and pants all wet and sandy...lol.

My experience there is what draws me to things like P90X, message boards like this, and other challenges. Always looking for the next challenge and pushing myself and hopefully helping others along the way. If I can do a 50m underwater swim, drown proof with my hands and feet tied behind my back for 30 minutes, 2 mile ocean swims, and 4 mile timed runs with boots on while soaking wet, I think I can do other things in life as well.

Hoo Ya...

The Only easy day WAS yesterday. LOVE IT!!

The course starts at the Silver Strand parking area. We swim out in the ocean 1.2 miles. Then 56 miles up and down the strand (4 laps I think). The half-marathon is indeed along the beach to the Elephant Cage (although I didn't know it was called that). I think we always called it the "Radar Thingy", as it was the entrance to Imperial Beach for a trip down to Albertos or...worse...TJ.

Is this the board for general Buds posting?? If so, count me in, I love the look and feel - easy to get around and post! :D

If anyone was wondering why we have such a high degree of respect for the Navy SEAL's look no further than Ryan Job. After losing his sight to a sniper's bullet, Ryan climbed Mt. Rainer, married the woman of his dreams, moved to Scottsdale, bagged an elk with the help of a veterans group and earned his bachelor's degree.

Ryan died last week, presumably related to the numerous surgeries he had to undergo.

We love the SEAL's because they represent strength, perserverance and the ability to adapt and overcome any circumstance. There was no question in this young man's mind the he would succeed in life after losing his life. He called his blindness an "inconvenience". There's no telling what else he may have accomplished had he not passed away at 28.

Take a moment to think about that and then ask yourself whether commiting to a fitness program and eating right is all that hard.

RIP Ryan

Loss of a family member, friend, colleague, or even an acquaintance always puts life's challenges in real-time perspective. Thanks, Dave.

Volkwoman here ... started Masters series October 1, in for the "Holiday Challenge" and love to see these boards. Participating in Monica's 30 days of clean eating at the moment. With banana cake and homemade cookies currently sitting in our break room, I'm happy I'm committed or there would be three pieces of cake in my gut by this hour. Also did Plyo Legs today for the first time. Ha.

So Dave, I did your schtick. Great success on P90, then started to get flabby and clothes started getting tight again. I remember reading that you had that cycle after the very first program. What was it that motivated you the second time around, and again and again after that? I find that once I get the momentum going (like now) it's not so hard. I guess that's why they call it momentum.

Lori You are right. In January of 2007 I was 192 pounds. After doing P90 and P90X in 2003/2004 I just kind of slowly slipped out of it. Then we moved, I went to work for Mega-Law and if I wasn't working I was studying for the AZ bar. I have a whole host of excuses. Bottom line was that I completely lost myself. It sucked. I was miserable. But I knew what I needed to do. I had done it before, and I just made a decision to change my life. Not for 90 days, or X number of pounds, but forever.

I did P90 again, then the Master Series and then P90X. After that I got into Triathlon. My decision to get more involved with Beachbody has really motivated me. I've met so many incredible people who are uber-fit. I've also met a lot of people that want to get into shape, but don't know how. When those people started looking at me for answers, I knew I was not only accountable to myself, but to them.

So, that's kind of what happened to me. I can tell you that I've seen a lot of people who get in shape for an event (e.g. a reunion...hint, hint). Once the event is over, the motivation is gone. So, time to take hold of the wheel on the bus and drive it where you want to go. Not for an event, not for anyone else, but just for you.

Day 2...

Dave, Thanks for the post on Ryan.... It's always inspiring to hear stories where people who have serious physical challenges overcome such incredible odds... Next weekend I'm riding in the SoCal MS Bike Ride in memory of my uncle Jon who pased away 15 years ago - but still inspires me to this day. He was a lawyer, who got MS at the age of 27, and lived with it for 20 years... He NEVER let the disease get the best of him... he worked in his firm up until 6 months before he death, even tho he could barely move a single muscle.. his mind was still in tack, and that's all he needed - he worked w/ the help of readers and assistants, but he never gave up his love of life, or his sense of humor! You're right when you say how hard is it for us to eat right and get up and move... compared to many others.. not so hard!

Have a great day you guys!!
