Monica’s Healthy Pasta

People who commit to the P90X Nutrition Guide are usually concerned that they will have difficulty making family-friendly meals. Please don’t let this discourage you, because it’s not true at all. In the video below, my co-chef Nicky and I will show you how to make a tasty P90X family meal of healthy pasta. Best of all, it costs only about $10!
One of the staple meals at the our house is my homemade bolognese sauce. I use organic diced tomatoes so it tastes really good and so I can control the sodium content. The first step is browning some ground beef in a small amount of olive oil. I usually use lean free-range beef, which means that the fat content of the meat does not exceed 10 percent. Adding basil and garlic is a must for this Italian girl—it simply brings out the best in this meal. While the meet is browning, you can start on the next step – pureeing the tomatoes. In the final step, I simply pour the tomatoes over the browned beef and – voila! We have a healthy family meal that follows the P90X Nutrition Guide!
[By the way, I suggest letting it sit for a while, so that the water can evaporate, the flavors can meld, and the sauce thickens.]
Preparing meals from scratch allows you to control fat, sodium, and other important things when preparing healthy meals. As you can see, it’s not rocket science.
For those of you who prefer veggies instead of pasta, like Dave, simply choose your favorite veggie to pour the sauce over. This time, Dave chose sweet potatoes!
