Be Like Bob. Win a Workout Challenge Contest.
Be like Bob. Win cash and prizes in a workout challenge contest just for getting healthy. In addition to winning a t-shirt AND $25,000, Bob won his health back.
Let me tell you his story—and give you two opportunities to be like Bob.
Workout Challenge Contest Finalist—Bob Taylor
My best work with Team Beachbody involves a man named Bob Taylor. I met Bob in late 2013, when he was 49 years old. Like too many 49 year olds, he was packing around an extra 50 pounds. After hurting himself in a whitewater rafting accident, he gained another 50, ultimately weighing in at 266 pounds. He’s about 5’8″ (Bob claims to be 5’10”).
As a result of this weight gain, he was on all kinds of medication for pre-diabetes and metabolic syndrome. He also had to use a CPAP machine (that’s the oxygen mask device that people wear at night to prevent them from dying from sleep apnea).
Bob decided to get healthy and set a goal to lose 50 pounds by age 50 and committed to work with me to reach it. “50 by 50” was our mantra. He tried P90X, but it was too hard. After some prep work, he got into my P90X3 Challenge Group in January of 2014.
The timing couldn’t have been more perfect. At the time, I was really looking for someone to coach to the finals of the Beachbody Challenge. I was first inspired back in 2009, when I connected with a coach named Tommy Mygrant and watched him coach a guy named Gregg Bird to a win. I also watched my friend and business success partner, Coach Jimmy Hays Nelson, coach a guy named Michael through the Ultimate Health Challenge. I saw that it was the pinnacle of who we are as Coaches and I REALLY wanted to help someone in the same way.
So, I started working really closely with Bob. We talked on the phone a lot.
I remember one day he told me how he had to travel a lot for work and every single time he went through airport security he would get pulled into secondary inspection and have to show everyone his “gas mask” and explain.
“It’s so I don’t choke to death in my sleep because I’m so fat.”
He was so embarrassed and angry at himself about what he had let transpire. I knew he’d do whatever it took. (I love it when people get a little pissed off. It’s an effective motivator IF you can channel it in the right direction.)
Bob ended up losing 97 pounds (that number is even higher now). We made it all the way to the Beachbody Challenge Finals! He earned about $31,000 and I earned about $11,000. This was NEVER about the money for me, so I did what I said I was going to do in the beginning—match my winnings and donate it all to the Navy SEAL Foundation. (I did something similar back when the new P90 workout was released and got to donate to the Wounded Warrior Project. Feels SO good.)
Besides the privilege of announcing “My friend, Bob Taylor” as a Finalist on the stage, one of my other greatest moments was writing a $22,000 check to the Seals.

Did Bob Win the Beachbody Challenge?
Bob didn’t win the grand prize, but we didn’t care. We both knew we had just had our finest hours—personally for Bob and professionally for me.
So, then what?
I’ve seen so many people (including myself) climb big mountains, only to come tumbling down. Bob was determined not to let that happen, so he started running—5k’s, 10k’s, half marathons, and then a few full marathons. Then, he caught the triathlon bug—sprints, Olympic distance races, and a couple of 70.3 Half Ironman ones.
Well, last weekend this 54 year old man, who just five years ago had one foot in the grave, finished a FULL IRONMAN in Texas—a 2.4 mile swim, 112 mile bike ride, and 26.2 mile marathon. He didn’t just finish. He crushed it. His total time was 12:33, which was 75th out of 236 in his division (M50-54), 746th out of 1916 males, and 924th out of 2969 total entrants.
I am brought to tears by the small role I played in helping Bob turn his health around.
Beachbody is a REAL Solution!
If you are wondering if Beachbody has a solution for you, IT DOES. If you are wondering whether our work as coaches makes a difference, IT DOES. If you are wondering whether it is all worth the effort, IT IS. If you are wondering whether you have what it takes, YOU DO.
I want to give special thanks to Jonathan Gelfand, who cherishes his role as the Administrator of The Beachbody Challenge and to the rest of Beachbody’s corporate team—Jeff Hill, Michael Neimand, Carl Daikeler, and Jon Congdon—for the opportunity you offered both Bob and myself.
And, of course, BIG thanks to Bob. I love you, man.
Announcing The Healthy Bod Challenge Contest!
Now for some incredibly exciting news…and yet another way to STAY motivated.
Monica and I have worked hard for the past decade to build a large network of coaches and customers, collectively known as The Fit Club Network. And, we are passionate about supporting each and every one of them—so we decided to start our very own monthly workout challenge contest.
Every month, we will be rewarding one of our members for getting healthy! First prize is $300, second is $150, third is $25, fourth is a Beachbody t-shirt (winner’s choice), and fifth will be a little something cool (like a Shakeology shaker cup or canister, some product samples, etc.).
And, guess what? Because the contestant pool in this particular workout challenge contest is a lot smaller than Beachbody’s, your odds of winning are REALLY good! Oh, and, just like the Beachbody Challenge, we don’t choose the winner—all of YOU do. Yep, anyone can vote!
You gotta go check it out now:
So, yeah, be like Bob. Set a goal to win a workout challenge contest, NAIL IT, and win some cash.
