Is it Time for a Lifestyle Inventory?
A lifestyle inventory is an assessment of your habits around anything that you deem important under the category of being well.
I brainstormed a list of things I think play into my wellbeing and I’ll share mine with you. My list does not have to be your list.
I ask myself the following:
- How do you sleep?
- How is your stress level?
- Are you living within your means?
- How is your nutrition?
- Are you adequately hydrated?
- Did you move today?
- How is your mental health?
- Have you checked in on your family and friends?
- How is your intimate life? (I know TMI but I’m just keep it real)
- Do you need to schedule any wellness appointments?

Wellness is a living, evolving practice. While the chronology of life is linear, wellbeing is not.
It’s helpful to have a conscious list because things can change very quickly and our focus might be elsewhere. We have emotions. Sometimes we’re angry and we have to navigate that emotion. Sometimes we are sad and we have to cope with that emotion too.
Something as simple as making your bed daily can help contribute to creating some serenity in difficult times.
I’m a mom. When I was pregnant, my wellbeing checklist changed during those nine months. My nutrition plan, my exercise, my sleep posture was all geared toward the life growing inside of me and navigating my rapidly growing baby bump.
The check-in wasn’t just a physical one, I had a whole new set of fears and feelings I had to figure out.
If you feel ready to act on your assessment and make some changes, I’d suggest you focus on you and only you.
If you decide you need to eat more nutritiously dense foods and your partner is not on board, this is not the time to wait for them. Act now and act with grace.
Avoid building resentment toward anyone who isn’t following your plan. Be grateful that you are consciously working on improving your wellbeing and pour all your positive energy into acting on your list.
While I’m far from perfect, I always want to strive to be aware. I appreciate people who are willing to be truthful.
The first step of a wellbeing checklist is to IDENTIFY what you want to be on your checklist.
The second step is having the COURAGE to be able to face things (or people) you might have to remove because they just aren’t serving you.
Ideally you remain gentle with yourself throughout the process. This isn’t a time for shame and self loathing. Nobody is perfect and we ALL could be better.
