LEAD IN NUTRITIONAL SUPPLEMENTS???
It’s unfathomable. Lead in nutritional supplements.Sadly, it’s true.
Thinking about adding Myoplex or Muscle Milk into your fitness and nutrition regime? Sure, you can get them cheap at Costco, but you might want to think again. In a recent investigation, Consumer Reports discovered high levels of heavy metals in both of these supplements.

I would like to comment on something mentioned in this article. They say that most people get enough protein in their diets. I’m not sure what research they have to support that conclusion. In my experience, the modern American diet is high in carbohydrates and low in protein. The body needs between 1g and 0.8g of protein per pound of lean body muscle. (Read this article by Mark Sisson: “Pondering Protein“). If you’re not getting that amount, then it’s likely that you need protein.
The bottom line—do your research before buying anything. (Note that “research” isn’t done at the supplement store while speaking to a clerk that has a vested interest in having you buy one supplement over another.)
I personally use two different protein powders. The first is Optimum Nutrition’s Platnium Hydro Whey. This is a very high quality protein that is formulated from whey isolate. As a result, it is a bit more expensive than most. The other one I use is Beachbody’s Whey Protein Powder (now discontinued). This is an affordable option for me, since I get a 25% discount on all Beachbody products as a Team Beachbody Coach. I use it to increase the calories in my Shakeology and to fill in gaps here and there.
The important thing to note here is that mass advertising isn’t always accurate. It is important to find trustworthy people who are knowledgeable about supplements. Read reviews and dig behind the nutrition facts into the ingredients. For example, is the protein from whey isolate or whey concentrate? Is it a blend? If so, what’s the ratio of isolate to concentrate? A lot of times you can’t answer these questions, but they make a big difference in the final outcome, which is your health.
I’d be happy to talk to you about my experience with nutritional supplements and why I’ve committed to using Beachbody products. Just shoot me a message:
