Do You Feel Like There’s Too Much Food on P90X?

I frequently hear from people that there’s too much food on P90X. This comment usually comes from those who want to lose about 30 to 50 pounds and they’re worried that consuming in the neighborhood of 3,000 calories each day will have them gaining weight.

In this video, I discuss what is going on and why the foods in the P90X Nutrition Guide may fill you up more than the modern American diet will:

P90X is a totally different bird than Power 90 and Beachbody’s other (lighter weight) fitness programs. The bottom line is that unless you skip workouts – or do them half assed – you have nothing to worry about. Conversely, you will have something to worry about if you reduce your calorie intake – your body won’t have enough energy and reserves to keep up with the P90X workout. While you may be able to get away with undereating for a short time, your body will eventually go into starvation mode and hold tight to calories and fat in order to protect itself. You also risk injury or chronic illness if you undereat.

Remember that the calorie recommendations in the P90X Nutrition Guide aren’t random figures. There’s a scientific reason they are phased. Calorie intake is set at optimal levels by highly educated nutrition and fitness experts in order to keep you healthy while maximizing results. The experts know the science behind the changes your body will be going through – and, they also know that a fit body both is likely to burn more calories during exercise and more at rest.

Of course, everybody’s body is different…so, there is no “one size fits all.” This is where the personal coaching we offer is such a valuable resource. We’ll address every diet variable as it pertains to your body. We’ll help you safely experiment within the ranges of the P90X diet.

So, I caution you – do NOT undereat. It’s much better to slightly overeat because your fitness will eventually catch up to your nutrition. But, if you continuously undereat, your body will break down over time. And, that’s no good.
