When to Switch Phases in P90X

Today I am going to talk about when to switch phases in P90X.

The P90X Nutrition Guide has three different phasesFat Shredder, Energy Booster, and Endurance Maximizer—with three completely different nutrition plans. People are often confused about when to switch phases.

The P90X Phases

Phase 1/Fat Shredder is the phase where you can lose the most weight. It is low-carb and allocated at 50% protein and 30% carbs. The amount of time you spend in this phase depends on your goal. If you did not have a lot of weight to lose in the first place, you can opt out as soon as the second week. However, if you are a person whose goal is to lose a greater amount, you might want to stick around a little bit longer.

Phase 2/Energy Booster will basically put you in a better shape and is allocated at 40% carbs, 40% protein, and 20% fat. You can enter this phase after you have lost the amount of weight that you wanted to lose and are now ready to build some muscle.

Phase 3/Endurance Maximizer is one that I only recommend this to those who are on an elite fitness level. It is allocated at 20% fat, 20% protein, and 60% carbs—as you can tell from these stats, this phase requires you to eat a lot of carbs!

When to Switch Phases in P90X

The most basic way to gauge whether you are ready to enter the next phase is by looking at how you feel after a P90X workout. If you can barely catch your breath and are ready to take a nap after a session, that might be an indicator that you’re not ready or something is not quite right. Maybe you need to increase your carb intake? If you’re feeling pumped, you’re ready! My most important advice to you is to be very honest with yourself if you truly want to see some great results.

I would also like to encourage you to get hold of me, so that we can assess where you are at. The free coaching that’s included with your program when you buy from a coach is priceless. I am P90X Certified, so I’m well trained in when to switch phases in P90X. I’ve also done the program myself several times and know it inside and out.

In this video, I will give you some of the basic general considerations on when to switch phases in P90X:

A Few P90X Tips

If you are the type of person who has been drinking a lot of coffee and eating a lot of carbs and sugar for an extended period, be ready to practice patience when it comes to seeing results. Your body needs time to adjust to the plan and the new routine you are putting it through. Patience is crucial.

I also want to encourage you to increase your water intake. One of the questions I often ask my clients is, “Are you drinking enough water?” If you are wondering what enough is , it is actually at least half the amount of your body weight in ounces. I know, this might sound scary, but trust me when I say this is for your own good.

If you haven’t already done so, be sure and check out our P90X Nutrition Plan Made Easy resource. This will be a HUGE help to you while doing P90X.
