Some Exercise Is MUCH Better Than None
For a lot of people, exercise is a big stumbling block on the road to good health. Sometimes, a little change in perspective is all you need when it comes to improving your habits.
Did you know you that even exerting yourself just 10 minutes of exercise a day is better than nothing? That’s right! Some exercise is MUCH better than none at all.
Exercise & Weight
Do you associate lots of activity with being thin? Most people do.
In reality, what you eat has much more to do with your weight than how much you’re exercising.
Depending on the type of exercise, it can take hours to work off 600 calories!
No Time for Exercise
One of the biggest obstacles I hear from clients with regard to fitness is that they feel like they just don’t have time.
When you realize that only 10 minutes of activity a day is better than not exercising at all, it’s easier fitting it in.
Even if you don’t work up a huge sweat in an hour-long fitness session, it doesn’t mean you’re not getting “enough.”
Do you struggle to fit exercise into your day? Try starting small.
Here are a few ideas:
- 10-minute walk before you get ready for work
- Short sessions of walking throughout the day
- Getting up from your desk every hour for a 5-minute walk around the office
- 10 minutes of calisthenics (jumping jacks, burpees, push-ups, sit-ups)
Start with about 10 minutes of activity a day and work your way up. After exercising 10 minutes a day for a few weeks, notice how much better you feel. It’s common to naturally want to add more time in because you feel so good.
For the past several years, Beachbody has been focused on shorter workouts in their programs—most are only 30 minutes for 4-6 days a week.
Does the gym make you uncomfortable? No problem. You don’t need a gym to get your daily allotment of activity!
Walking up a flight of stairs is great exercise. So is walking the dog. And, working out at home is AWESOME!
A Great Starting Point
Want to work out, but hate the idea of the gym or being anywhere others can see you? Beachbody On Demand has you covered.
There are so many programs to choose from and many are great for beginners (at the end of this post is a link to a list of our favorites!).
You can work out from the comfort of your living room, but with the motivation that comes from a class.
Exercise Is Cumulative
The amount of exercise you get is cumulative throughout the day, so three 10-minute sessions means you’ve exercised for 30 minutes a day!
The US Department of Health and Human Services recommends at least 150 minutes of exercise per week. That’s only about 21 minutes per day.
Too tired to hit the gym after work? Head home and take a 20-minute walk before or after dinner. It’ll make a huge difference in your health.
Exercise and Disease
Even small amounts of activity reduce your chances of dying from cardiovascular and other diseases, such as diabetes. Your blood pressure, cholesterol, and blood sugar will all decrease.
Don’t Stress About It!
Don’t stress so much about fitness…just get your body moving any way you can throughout the day.
Start small with 10-minute intervals and work your way up to at least 30 minutes of exercise per day. Remember, that exercise is cumulative so you don’t have to get the 30 minutes in one sweat session.
You’re going to feel so much better when you’re working out regularly, and your body will thank you for it. You’ll also save money on doctor’s bills and medication!
