BEACHBODY COACH SUMMIT 2009: It’s About the Community

I’ve just returned from the Beachbody’s Coach Summit 2009, and I can honestly say that it was one of the best weekends of my life.

Why? The answer requires a brief history lesson.

In 2003, Monica and I bought Power 90 and invited Tony Horton into our home every night. It changed our physical lives and ranks as one of the best decisions we’ve made. When I look back at how much that decision has impacted us, it’s mind boggling. Monica got more out of it than I did. Sure, we both lost weight, but Monica also gained a group of incredible friends through the Beachbody message boards and by attending some of Tony’s Fitness Camps. I, unfortunately, did not…until last year. (Like many other times in my life, I should have listened to my wife. If you want to know more, read Monica’s full story and mine.)

Last year I decided to go to the Beachbody 2009 Coach Summit with Monica to meet all of these people that she’d been raving about. I met some of the most incredible people and wondered why it had taken me so long to become a part of this awesome community.

What’s so special about these people? Again, I’ve got to yap a bit.

The short answer: they truly care. I’m talking about genuine care and concern…for each other, their fitness, their lives, their struggles and, of course, their successes. I used to believe these kind of people were rare…that I would be lucky to have just one friend who cared about me the way these people care about me and if I ever found that sort of person that I would hold them so close to my heart that they would never get away.

What I discovered was that people like this are not rare at all. In fact, they are abundant and I am so fortunate to have spent the weekend in their company.

Who are “these people?” They’re Beachbody Coaches. Yes, Team Beachbody is a business. We sell products like P90X, but we do so much more than that. In my humble opinion, Team Beachbody is about helping people get in the best shape of their lives. It’s rewarding in a way that simply cannot be measured with anything beginning with a dollar sign.

The weekend activities were a blast as well. Thursday night we went to a small gathering at Tony Horton’s house in Santa Monica. His personal chef, Missy Costello (of Karma Chow), cooked an outstanding healthy meal for us and we got to meet some of Tony’s “real world” friends. I suppose celebrities all have regular friends, but Tony never ceases to amaze me with the awesome people he attracts and the crazy stuff they do, like workout on the beach, rock climb, or ski.

We also got to check out the set for Tony’s One-on-One series (his home gym). His new thing is the bosu ball, and he demonstrated some pretty cool ways to use the thing. He’s a madman and I love and admire him, because he never stops pushing himself to the next level.

At Tony’s house, I made new friends, like Tommy Mygrant and his wife Ashley. Tommy was a finalist in the Million Dollar Body Game (now the Beachbody Challenge). I knew a little about his story and he definitely had our votes, but we had never met before. I spent three days with this man and my words are inadequate to explain his excellence. Tommy is about 5’7″ and he used to weigh about 270 pounds. He was one HUGE dude! He lost 70 pounds using P90X and won $50,000 for changing his life. He didn’t win the $250,000 Grand Prize, but after staying up until 3:30 am talking to him last night, what he gained doesn’t have a price tag. He saved his life and maybe Ashley’s, too. And, now he’s saving other peoples’ lives.

Here is Tommy’s transformation video. Incredible…

Of course, business was done and we had a lot to do. Friday was filled with presentations and awards. As a 5-Star Diamond Coach, Monica received her share of them, including recognition for being a founding member of Team Beachbody. We also got to catch up with old friends who are not just fit, they are “supersonic fit” and inspirational in the very best way. They are the reason I busted my ass getting ready for Summitdoing doubles, rock climbing, and even riding my bike 50 miles to work last week. You want to be motivated? Hang out with these people for a while. They are infectious. Trust me…you want to catch what they have.

After all that was done, Tony worked us over with a version of the One-on-One Road Warrior that he put together to train Usher. (Yes, Usher…the musician.) I got to get right up front, so I could receive as much punishment from Tony as possible. Finishing with a version of the sphinx push up, that I’ll have to video to adequately describe, the floor was covered with sweat. Working out with Tony and about 200 of your friends is pretty incredible. The energy is palpable.

Saturday was a rollercoaster ride. It came at us so fast that I can hardly remember everything that happened.

The new stuff they have coming out is crazy. There is a program called Insanity by Shaun T that’s a 60 day a$$ kicker. In fact, the test group participants say is the hardest thing they’ve ever done. I can’t wait to see what Shaun’s got!

So now we’re back home. Coach Summit 2009 is over. Next year, we ARE going back to Hawaii on the Top Coach trip again…period. It was such a great opportunity to remind ourselves why we are involved in this business. It’s not about the money, people. It’s about the community and helping people achieve their goals!

Can you tell I amped up from our incredible experience? I encourage you to start investigating this amazing opportunity. I’m here to help you from the moment you so “Go!” We have a lot of resources on the site…start here:
