How to Make a Roast Everyone Will Love

A great tradition in the Ward family is eating family dinner together. In this fast-paced world, sitting down with the whole family and enjoying good company and delicious food is priceless. Dave has two 94 year old grandparents who are still going strong and it’s absolutely precious to spend time with them. One of our all-time favorite family meals to eat together is a pot roast. Today, I’m going to show you how to make a roast everyone will love. It’s easier than you might think!

Choosing a Roast

The very first step is getting a lean cut of meat. You should be able to ask your butcher to cut a nice piece for you. Our favorite is an eye of round cut, which Costco almost always has in stock.

Oh, if you are wondering whether pork is an option…well, it can be. But, bear in mind that it will fall apart easily, which is why beef is strongly suggested for this type of roast.

Cooking a Roast

Once you get the roast you want, simply put it in a pot with some olive oil and brown the top of it.

Once it is completely brown, pour some inexpensive white wine on it, turn it to a low simmer, and let it cook and boil down into gravy for about four to six hours. In the first few hours, you don’t have to stock the pot, but toward the end, you have to watch the reduction.

We usually get the cheapest wine but, of course, you can use any white wine you want. Getting a bigger bottle will give you more gravy, which is definitely the best part.

Throw some veggies on the side and you have a big meal that costs only about $25 – and can serve up to 10 people! It’s seriously one of the greatest, most cost-efficient and healthy recipes…check out the video:
