It Takes 21 Days to Make a Habit

If you’re landing here from our email series, welcome back! Can you believe it’s already been 21 days since you’ve signed up? That’s a special number. Why? Because it takes 21 days to make a habit…actually it takes a minimum of 21 days. If you’re not coming here from our email series, you’ve landed in the right place to learn about forming new healthy habits. (If you’d like to sign up, the form is in the sidebar.)

Assuming 21 days have passed since you got started on a new health and fitness regime, this is an ideal time to sit down and check in with your progress. Review your weight log. Line up your pictures and check them out. Compare your measurements. And, really think about how you’re feeling, particularly your energy level and stamina. Is it the same, better, worse? Have your sleep patterns changed? (I suggest you go back and re-read my post on tracking fitness progress first, so you’re properly assessing these benchmarks.)

Watch this video for more details:

As I said in the video, it’s important not to expect perfection or get discouraged if you’re not where you hoped you would be in 21 days. If you’re still struggling with the formation of your new health and fitness habits, I have some encouragement for you…

Since Dr. Maxwell Maltz set forth his 21 day theory in his book Psycho Cybernetics, further research has shown that it probably takes more like two to eight months before a  new behavior really becomes engrained. So, give it time. Focus on—and celebrate—your successes. Some progress is much better than no progress! As you move forward, dig a little deeper and get a little bit more committed. Research has also found that it doesn’t matter if you mess up every now and then…building better habits is not an all-or-nothing deal. I’m the poster child for this concept!

Our Most Popular 21 Day Fitness Program

Shortly after it was launched, Coach Monica chose to specialize in the 21 Day Fix program. It offered exactly the structure and simplicity that she knew would help people reach their health and fitness goals. The eating plan has been adopted as a standalone program by Beachbody because 1) it totally rocks and 2) nutrition is key to any weight loss journey.  It has become the most popular program in our arsenal.

But, there are more fitness programs that are equally as effective and, thanks to the Beachbody On Demand membership, you have access to hundreds of them! This is AWESOME since it’s key to combine fitness with a healthy nutrition plan.

Again, I can’t stress enough how important it is to reach out to us. We want to celebrate with you and we want to help you pinpoint any issues, give you some creative ideas, and rev you up as you move forward. Just click here:
