How to Make Shakeology Fat Bombs

Shakeology Fat Bombs? What the heck? I know, I know—fat is supposed to be bad for you. But, it’s really not if you eat the right kind. Read on to learn more.

The Paleo Diet

In early 2010, I was looking for a nutrition plan that would work for me. I wanted something that would allow me to maintain my weight without having to spend hours killing myself working out. I tried being a vegetarian—I was even vegan for awhile. This works for a lot of people, but I was miserable and I actually gained weight.

Then, a friend recommended a book called The Primal Blueprint by Mark Sisson. The book is a little technical, but I’m technical and analytical so I really connected with it and it made a strong case for the “Paleo” lifestyle.

The basic premise of the book is that humans are consuming a lot of food that our bodies were not designed to process. The first result is that the body goes into a fat storage mode, making weight loss very difficult. In addition, these processed foods cause inflammation throughout the body. (Hmmmm…could this be why I gained weight as a vegetarian?)

I started challenging a lot of my preconceived notions about food.

The first of these was that grains are good for you. Are they processed? Yes—very, very processed. Things like bread, pasta, flour, and many types of rice are heavily processed, even bleached! Wait, I’m consuming BLEACH? I was. A lot of it. In addition to being unhealthy, it was causing me to gain weight.

The second thing I began to question was whether fat is really unhealthy. We’re told to avoid fat over and over because fat makes you fat. But, this is NOT true!

I’m not a big conspiracy guy, but I truly believe that this is a lie we’ve been told so food companies have a chance at convincing us that a bag of Doritos is healthier than a stick of grass fed butter. It isn’t.

Fat is so good for the body. It helps with a wide variety of processes. In addition, it’s really hard to eat too much fat. Try to eat a stick of butter. It will fill you up well before you are done.

So, I began experimenting.

I cut out grains entirely—no pasta, pizza, rice, bread, etc. I started eating more fat—butter, coconut oil, avocado oil, olive oil, ghee, etc. And, I started eating higher quality whole foods—organic foods and grass-fed meat.

I lost weight quickly, most of which I believe was inflammation, and I maintained that weight loss with very little effort.
