Becoming a Beachbody Coach

This is my friend and business partner Carl Daikeler, the CEO of Beachbody. I am the co-owner of The Fit Club Network. He was pivotal in my becoming a Beachbody Coach and we’ve been partners for 10 years now.

My Process of Becoming a Beachbody Coach

Ten years ago, when Carl started his company, I wasn’t so sure it was a good idea. I was practicing law at the time. I was a really dedicated customer, having completed Tony Horton’s programs Power90 and P90X.

I was very skeptical about this new venture. I was very skeptical about everything, if I’m honest. I thought it might ruin something that I felt was “pure.”

I just didn’t understand what Carl was doing. It looked like a money grab to me and that turned me off. I was pretty sure it was a scam. I was interviewing lawyers to take a look at the compensation plan and prove I was right. Seriously…I did that.

In 2008, Monica and I went to Maui with Carl on an incentive trip. I met Carl and his partner, Jon Congdon. They wanted to know why I wasn’t all in, like Monica and everyone else on the trip! They asked me a ton of questions trying to understand my hesitation.

Along the way, I met firefighters, cops, military, educators, accountants, and other corporate guys that had left that world behind to be Beachbody Coaches. I knew I wasn’t put here to live in air conditioned cages (my car, office, etc.) and I was starting to think about it.

At the end of the trip, Jon pulled me aside. He said something to the effect of—”If we address your concerns, and make sure we do this with integrity, will you join us?”

What do you say when the President of what is now a billion dollar company asks you a question like that? I said yes, then sat back and watched to see if they would follow up with the promise.

By the end of 2008, I was in. ALL IN. I knew I wanted to make this my life’s work. I got busy. VERY busy. I woke up early and I stayed up late. I worked through lunch or went to the gym, instead of hitting Chili’s for some nachos with everyone else. I told my young children what I was doing and promised them that if they gave me two years, I’d make it happen—I would free myself from the lawyer chains and dedicate my life to them. So, I did.

The Realities of Becoming a Beachbody Coach

It’s not all rainbows and unicorns. There have been challenges. I have had to grow and change a tremendous amount and that is PAINFUL. I have screwed up more things than I have gotten right. But, it’s all been worth it.

I help people achieve their goals and live healthier and more fulfilling lives. That’s important work. Sometimes it means I help people lose weight. Sometimes it means I help people get stronger. Sometimes it means I learn how to generate income to help them improve their lives. Sometimes it means none of those things and I’m just a facilitator of something that helps them get better. It is always my job.
