Focus on Flexiblity and Mobility

When I turned 50, in 2022 I didn’t really think much about it. One of my fitness mentors, Tony Horton, famously said, “Aging is for idiots” and I always agreed with that. I just treated it like another day, but with a party.

HOWEVER, I’ve learned that it’s a little more complex than simply deciding not to get old. My mindset mentor, Jim Rohn, put it best stating, “Affirmation without discipline is the beginning of delusion.”

Tony also talked about how Yoga is the Fountain of Youth. Watch this short video from our time together at his Yoga Retreat in Jackson Hole 14 years ago when Tony was 50:

So, here I am creeping up on 52. I’ve been really active this year, my nutrition remains in that 80/20 zone (80% wholesome food and 20% maybe not so much 😉) and my sleep patterns have been outstanding.

Despite all that, I’m finding my body a little run down. I’m a little more sore, a little more often, than I used to be. I’m not recovering from hard workouts, or activities like surfing as quickly. The weather is changing and my body is feeling it. I’m also under a fair amount of stress right now and that’s probably contributing. Thankfully, that stress has not impacted my sleep.

Like most things, I decided to assess my behaviors and realized I’ve neglected an important aspect: flexibility and mobility.

And, that’s likely why my body is a little run down. Sure, aging is for idiots, but not doing anything about it is worse. Time to take some action.

Over the next 30 days, I’m going to be focused on flexibility and mobility. Ski season is approaching and I need this foundation to build upon. Also, I’d love to wake up without soreness in my back, hips and shoulders.

If any of this resonates with you, I’m inviting you to join me.

THE PLAN: My foundation will be the Yoga 52 Program on the BODi app/platform. I will also be mixing in the Mobility and Stability workouts from Amoila Cesar in the 645 Program and selected workouts from the 3 Week Yoga Retreat (I love Vytas).

Most of these workouts are around 30 minutes in length, and everyone can carve out that time to feel better. Once again, I’m inviting you to join me along this journey.

Maybe my plan isn’t the right one for you. That’s fine. Maybe yoga isn’t where you want to START. That’s okay, too. Amoila’s Mobility and Stability workouts are a great place to start bending and twisting and turning and moving your body for longevity.

I’m more than happy to help you put together a plan FOR YOU at whatever level you are at. Let’s do this together. Let’s feel better together. Let’s stay young together.
