Is Results and Recovery Formula Being Discontinued?

Are the rumors true? Is Beachbody’s Results and Recovery post-workout nutritional supplement being discontinued???

Alas, yes…it’s true. The bad news is that the delicious orange recovery drink we have known and loved for years is no more. But, there IS good news—in fact, I consider it excellent news, so keep reading.

Why is Results and Recovery Formula Being Discontinued?

One of the benefits of Beachbody being on the leading edge of science is their continuing effort to offer the best products available.

As science evolves, scientific research results in changes, especially in the nutritional supplement industry. It isn’t unusual for a new scientific study to come out that totally reverses a former finding. But, most of the time, it’s just consistent progress that results in the choice to take a different approach.

I am very appreciative that Beachbody doesn’t hold tight to their old ways and put all of us coaches out of business! I also deeply appreciate their transparency when it comes to honestly explaining their reason for making a change.

Their decision to phase out P90X Results and Recovery Formula was based on a couple key factors:

REASON #1—The stance on carbohydrate-to-protein ratios has changed.

When it first came out, Results and Recovery Formula was on the cutting edge of post workout recovery drinks. At the time, Drs. John Ivy and Robert Portman—authors of Nutrient Timing: The Future of Sports Nutrition—recommended a 4:1 carbohydrate-to-protein ratio to hydrate, replenish glycogen (your muscles’ main source of fuel), and boost muscle repair and growth.

In the last decade, research has shown that adequate protein intake should take priority over the restoration of glycogen.

REASON #2—When Results and Recovery Formula was created, Beachbody’s main workouts were P90X and Insanity. Both of these programs were longer and had people burning through a lot more glycogen than today’s shorter programs (like 21 Day Fix Extreme, Shift Shop, 80 Day Obsession, and LIIFT4).

So evolution was necessary—and, it happened.

Why Do We Need a Post Workout Supplement?

If you have any question in your mind about the benefits of nutritional supplements, check this out—Why We Need to Take Nutritional Supplements

Here’s the way I look at it—you could build a house without using a single power tool or clean it without a single appliance. But, why the heck would you???

Nutritional supplements are power tools for our bodies during a fitness or weight loss journey. I’ve come to appreciate their value to my body so much that they are just a part of my daily routine.

So Beachbody didn’t just discontinue and run. They invested time and money in developing a better replacement for the Results and Recovery Formula.

I’ll be honest—I wan’t immediately sold on their new Performance Line. I’m not a bandwagon jumping kinda guy. I have to research and experiment myself before I buy into something. Well, I did and I’m sold—the Performance supplements are AWESOME.

There are five supplements in the Performance line:

I highly suggest you click on each of these links to learn more about each of these supplements. Getting educated is key to your long-term health.

So, instead of Results & Recovery, here’s what I recommend:

  1. Drink Performance Hydrate DURING your workout to help with glycogen levels.
  2. Drink Performance Recover afterwards.
  3. If you feel like you need a bit more carbs than Performance Recover offers, you can make a citrus cocktail by mixing Hydrate and Recover together. This is even better than the Results and Recovery Formula because it allows you to mix them at the optimum carb-to-protein ratio for YOU.

Performance’s Recover supplement delivers more protein (20 grams) and less carbs (10 grams) to help repair muscles and jumpstart the replenishment of glycogen. In addition, according to the latest science and sports performance trends, it also does the following:

A quick note about taste—this was one of the BEST things about Results and Recovery, right? Not a surprise considering the amount of sugar it contained. Knowing this, Beachbody had their R&D team come up with an orange Recover flavor in addition to chocolate.

In this post, I give you some tips on how to get the best pricing on the Performance supplements—Performance Line Pricing. (Prices change so if you want to make sure you have the most current pricing, shoot me a message.)

If you’re feeling even the slightest bit confused about what supplements would be best for you based on a specific workout you’re doing, by all means, message me and I’ll make sure you’re on track.
