What is a Supplement Stack & What Do Ours Look Like?

It’s a new year (HOORAY, right???) and, if you’re like many people, you’re ready to make some changes. It might even be time to consider a supplement stack.

A healthy body is more important than ever as we head into another year still reeling from the Covid pandemic.

Are you serious about getting healthy and improving your fitness and nutrition routine?

Then, it’s a good time to learn what a supplement stack is and exactly what it can do for you.

What is a Supplement Stack?

A “supplement stack” is not only a group of specific supplements, it’s also in what order you take them.

When you stack them optimally, you get the most out of your supplements because they work synergistically with each other.

This means the supplements work in a complimentary or cooperative manner so, to get the MOST out of them, you want to make sure you’re taking the right ones at the right time.

Supplements are a great addition to your nutrition routine. Let’s look at why we should take them.

Why Take Nutritional Supplements?

It’s a sad fact that the American diet isn’t always full of the nutrition your body needs for optimal functioning.

Agricultural practices designed for pest resistance, faster crop growth, and bigger vegetables lead to soil depletion. This means vegetables don’t have as many nutrients as they once did.

Your body needs a lot that you may not be giving it, even if you follow a good nutrition program like the Ultimate Portion Fix or 2B Mindset.

This doesn’t mean you have to throw yourself into taking tons of supplements.

You should always figure out what your goals are first, then you can start with a beginner supplement stack and see how your body responds.

8 Positive Connections Between Sport and Health | TheFitClubNetwork.comDave’s Supplement Stack

I’ll go over my supplement stack first and explain why and when I take each supplement. Then, Monica will also show you what supplements she takes.

I’ve been taking supplements since 2003, so you can see I’m a firm believer!

The first supplement I take in the morning is my cup of coffee.

Yup, that’s right. Coffee’s a supplement because it contains caffeine. Caffeine energizes me and gets me started on my day.

There’s a good chance you’re already including caffeine in your morning routine, too. Of course, tea counts, too!

The next thing I take is Shakeology.

I’ve said this before and I’ll say it again — Shakeology is one of the best supplements available today and I HIGHLY RECOMMEND it.

One of the reasons it’s so fabulous is because it was specifically designed for people who don’t like eating vegetables, so it gives your body a whopping helping of the nutrition it needs for the day.

Some of Shakeology’s super power ingredients include:

Shakeology gives me the energy I need coupled with tons of health-enhancing nutrients.

Next up is Bevvy, one of Beachbody’s newer supplements designed to support healthy weight loss and help curb cravings.

It’s a refreshing green tea supplement that comes in a convenient powdered formula that’s easy to mix in your container of choice. There are two Bevvy flavors — Lemon and Pomegranate Berry. Each serving has only 15 calories and less than 8 mg of caffeine.

What else do I take? I also take a nootropic called Alpha Brain. It isn’t a Beachbody supplement, but I like it for focus and memory.

Depending on what workout I’m doing, I also take Beachbody’s Energize Pre-Workout Formula. I drink it with water over ice about 15-30 minutes before my workout so it has time to get into my system.

If I’m going on a long bike ride, I’ll also take a Beachbody Protein Bar (AKA BeachBars) with me. This gives me added energy if I get hungry.

Here, at the beginning of the year, I’m not looking to add muscle weight. In fact, I’d rather lose a couple of pounds! If I was looking to add, I’d use some creatine.

I also take magnesium because it helps with sore muscles and sleep.

Another good addition is Vitamin D3 during the winter or when the sun isn’t out. I’d recommend D3 for everyone right now because it helps build a healthy immune system and some studies have found that it particularly helps fend off Covid.

So, that’s about it for my supplement stack. Here’s a video where I go over them all:

Now, let’s take a look at Monica’s supplement stack.

Monica’s Supplement Stack

Hey, Coach Monica here! Dave asked me to chime in and tell you about the supplements I use.

Like Dave, I LOVE Beachbody’s Energize — I take a scoop of it in water every morning before my workout.

I also add Beachbody Performance Hydrate to my water.

It’s a SUPER effective hydrating formula that helps me with exercise performance and endurance. It’s full of electrolytes and it digests easily.

The GREAT thing? It’s NOT full of sugar like most sports hydration formulas. The other thing Hydrate DOESN’T have? No fillers, artificial sweeteners, preservatives artificial colors or flavors. Yay!!!

After working out, I LOVE Beachbody Performance Recover.

This stuff is GREAT! It promotes lean muscle growth while reducing muscle soreness and is full of high-quality protein.

The healthiest meal in my day is always Shakeology. It’s PACKED with nutrition.

I even go further and add a scoop of Beachbody Power Greens and a scoop of Beachbody Collagen.

Talk about SYNERGY! These three work great together.

A Little “Supplemental” Info

One of the reasons Monica and I love Beachbody’s Performance line of supplements is that they’re Informed Sport certified.

In short, this means it passes A LOT of quality and ingredient tests and is safe for competitors to use in most professional sports.

It’s an unfortunate fact that a lot of unscrupulous people are in the supplement industry — and some of the most popular supplements on the market contained heavy metals.

These people take advantage of the fact that the FDA regulates supplements as food, not drugs. That means supplements aren’t subjected to the same rigorous safety standards as prescription drugs, when they DO have the ability to impact our bodies in major ways like drugs.

Under the FDA, all drugs are unsafe until proven safe. On the other hand, supplements are safe until proven unsafe!

Supplements don’t undergo clinical trials the way drugs do. I don’t know about you, but I don’t want to be someone’s guinea pig!

You have to be your own advocate when it comes to supplement safety. Always look for supplements certified by Informed Sport or NSF.

The NSF and Informed Sport certification ensures you can trust that the product doesn’t contain any substances banned by sports organizations and that everything on the label is actually in the product.
